Manchester United's board is keeping an eye on both forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Jeremy Jacquet. Both would be interesting reinforcements for the upcoming season.
Manchester United is working with its sights set on the upcoming season. Although it is not ruled out that the club could make a move during the current winter market, the most logical thing is for the board to postpone its major maneuvers until the summer period.
By then, the priority will continue to be recruiting a defensive midfielder. That said, it would not be strange at all if the executives cast their nets for some other footballer. Among them, according to Fichajes, is Jean-Philippe Mateta (28 years old), who, with his contract ending at Crystal Palace in 2027, could perhaps change clubs for a reasonable price.
In the past, the Eagles have rejected offers of more than 50 million euros for their pupil, but after seeing that the Frenchman is not willing to renew his commitment, they will likely be forced to lower their initial demands. To date, the forward has 55 goals and 13 assists in the 180 official matches he has played for the London entity.
Furthermore, Manchester United's scouts are keeping an eye on Jeremy Jacquet, a defender who plays for Rennes. The 20-year-old center-back has also made his way onto the agenda of other giants like Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Liverpool, so his signing will be neither easy nor cheap.
Manager Ruben Amorim has emphasized that Manchester United will not make new signings in January unless there is "common ground" between him and football director Jason Wilcox on which players will improve the team. The Red Devils continue to be linked with some names, including several midfielders, ahead of the winter transfer market opening on New Year's Day.
United is believed to be interested in signing a new No. 6 in January.
According to The Guardian, United is thought to have prioritized signing a new central midfielder in January, with Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves, Atletico Madrid's Conor Gallagher, and Bournemouth's Tyler Adams added to its list of potential signings.
The 20-time champions were interested in bringing in a new No. 6 in the summer transfer window, but withdrew from negotiations to secure Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba after being put off by his reported valuation of 100 million pounds ($114 million/$133 million).
