Although there is still a chunk of this season to play - albeit in just one competition - many Manchester United fans are wishing away the next few months ahead of the summer transfer window.
They know that the team may be just a few key pieces away from being a side built to compete for the biggest trophies in the game. They also know that Champions League football is key to have the finances available to sign said game changing players.
United would be looking to sign a few positions, including midfield, particularly after the pending departure of veteran Casemiro. According to The Athletic, the club is looking to sign a defensive midfielder to complement Kobbie Mainoo, as well as a "young midfielder capable of sharing playing time with him."
Furthermore, they namecheck Lucien Agoume of Sevilla and Carlos Baleba of Brighton and Hove Albion as key targets for the summer.
Interesting to see Baleba's name come up again after the reported heavy interest last summer, before the player eventually stayed on the South Coast. Since the failed transfer, he has failed to replicate even a fraction of his previous form, often finding himself hooked early on.
But it would be short-sighted to write a player off for that. You may remember when Virgil van Dijk's move to Liverpool fell through in 2017. He had a pretty underwhelming six months at Southampton before being signed in January, and well, the rest is history.
So, perhaps it would be smart to go back in for Baleba. To "buy the dip" if you will - perhaps he will cost a fair bit less than he would have last year. This summer, the Cameroonian international will enter the final two years of his Brighton contract, which could somewhat force their hand.
As for Agoume, he is having a good season at Sevilla whether playing as a defensive midfielder or as more of a nominal central midfielder. Therefore, he could be a player to play alongside Mainoo, as well as instead of, when he needs some rest. The Frenchman will also enter the final two years of his contract this summer.
Let's see. Elliot Anderson continues to be mentioned as a target, with the 23-year old having another excellent season at Nottingham Forest, with his form likely being rewarded with a starting spot for England at the World Cup this summer.
