The strong performances offered by Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic have not gone unnoticed beyond Serie A. The player has made his way onto Manchester United's radar.
Manchester United scouts traveled to Italian territory this past Sunday to, according to Gazzetta di Modena, witness the Serie A match between Bologna and Sassuolo. Their goal: to test the performance of a player from the visiting side, defender Tarik Muharemovic.
The 22-year-old Bosnian center-back delivered a notable performance, as he showed himself to be composed and effective throughout the 90 minutes, and was the author of the goal that helped his side salvage a point in their visit to Renato Dall'Ara (1-1 final).
With the pertinent reports elevated, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils decide to take action. If they do, they will have to engage in tough negotiations with the Neroverde club, which can easily hold on to its pupil's very long contract (valid until 2031). Furthermore, they will have to overcome competition from Inter Milan and Juventus.
Forged at Austria Kärnten in Austria, the Balkan player passed through Wolfsberger before being recruited by Juventus. With the Bianconeri, the young defender never had the opportunity to debut with the first team, so this past summer, after an initial loan, he decided to commit definitively to I Tricolore.
Manager Ruben Amorim has emphasized that Manchester United will not make new signings in January unless there is "common ground" between him and football director Jason Wilcox on which players will improve the team. The Red Devils continue to be linked with some names, including several midfielders, ahead of the winter transfer market opening on New Year's Day.
United is believed to be interested in signing a new No. 6 in January.
According to The Guardian, United is thought to have prioritized signing a new central midfielder in January, with Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves, Atletico Madrid's Conor Gallagher, and Bournemouth's Tyler Adams added to its list of potential signings.
The 20-time champions were interested in bringing in a new No. 6 in the summer transfer window, but withdrew from negotiations to secure Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba after being put off by his reported valuation of 100 million pounds ($114 million/$133 million).
