Rashford thrives in Barcelona, seeking a permanent move. Clubs are negotiating, but Manchester United's interest complicates his dream Spanish stay.

Last summer, having spent the previous few months on loan at Aston Villa, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford left for another loan, this time to Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

The academy graduate was clearly not going to play under Ruben Amorim, who had been quite public in his criticism of the player when he had first arrived at the club last season.

So, another move away was seen as best for everyone. Although not a guaranteed starter, Rashford is certainly a big part of the 14 or 15-man rotation at Barcelona. So far this season, the 28-year-old has 21 goals and assists in 1977 minutes of action, contributing to a goal every 94 minutes on the pitch.

However, despite Amorim now being gone, Rashford does not want to appear to want a return to Old Trafford. Indeed not, with journalist Matteo Moretto reporting that the Englishman wants to stay at Barcelona.

Moretto also mentions that the Catalan side would like to keep him, but want to pay "slightly less" than the 30 million Euros buy option. He says that talks between the clubs have begun. Finally, he reports that Michael Carrick would like to bring him back.

For just over two seasons, Rashford played with the gaffer at United, with Carrick assisting one of his goals in an FA Cup win over Reading back in January of 2017.

So, you can see why he would want him back. However, it is pretty clear that that sort of feeling is not one that will be reciprocated. If Rashford does not want to return to the City he is from, for the club he has played for all of his life, whilst (potentially) playing under a former teammate, when exactly would he want to return?

There is no doubt that he could offer something to United. It's clear the club recruited for Amorim's 343 system in the summer. With the team now playing a four at the back, it is clear that a left winger is missing, particularly with Patrick Dorgu currently out injured.

But it feels unlikely at this point. It feels like the club will eventually agree on a fee, most likely a little under the 30 million Euros buy option, but perhaps with several bonuses, clauses and so on and so forth. But we shall have to wait and see what happens.
