Manchester United are set to go 23 days without a match following their recent 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, but thanks to slip-ups from teams like Chelsea and Liverpool last weekend, they still sit third in the table.
The Reds were down in sixth when Michael Carrick first stepped in, but their form has improved significantly throughout 2026, with the interim boss now being linked with the role on a permanent basis next season.
It’s not just the team that’s collectively stepped up, either. Players such as Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Matheus Cunha have all made major strides since the turn of the year.
However, injuries have disrupted United at times, and fresh reports suggest that two players have now withdrawn from international duty ahead of the upcoming break.
As reported by BBC correspondent Simon Stone, United duo Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo have both pulled out of international duty for the coming two weeks.
Šeško had been lined up to face Hungary and Montenegro in friendlies with Slovenia in the next week or so.
At the same time, Mbeumo was due to play against Australia and China at the end of March, both of which were organised friendlies.
It has been further reported by Manchester Evening News' Steven Railston that Mbemba has chosen to withdraw from Cameroon's squad for precautionary reasons.
At the same time, Šeško has withdrawn from duty with Slovenia as he wants to fully recover from a knock he's been playing through of late.
Further in the report, Stone states that United expect both Šeško and Mbeumo to be fully fit and available to play their next game, which comes against Leeds United on 13 April.
It is also added that Noussair Mazraoui, who missed the recent draw with Bournemouth due to illness, is expected to return to the squad, too.
United will face Leeds at Old Trafford before travelling to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later in the week.
The club also have ties against Brentford, Liverpool, Sundreland, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton across the remaining seven fixtures of the season as they look to secure their return to the Champions League next season.
