What happens once Patrick Dorgu returns?

When Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu went down with a hamstring problem against Arsenal back in January, Manchester United boss Michael Carrick initially stated that he felt it may not be too serious an injury.

However, news broke the following day that the Danish international had, in fact, suffered a serious hamstring issue and could be sidelined for up to ten weeks.

The 21-year-old had been in stellar form across the six weeks prior to his injury, producing stunning goals against the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal.

So, to see his fantastic form hampered so suddenly was a huge blow to United's momentum, and fans have been eager to see him return ever since.

United issue update on Dorgu's recovery

It has been around two months since Dorgu went down at the Emirates and came off on medical advice, and amid the international break, the club have now issued an official update on his condition.

In a fresh statement, United have said that Dorgu "continues to work hard" on his rehabilitation from his injury and is leaving "no stone unturned" in his recovery.

The club stated that Dorgu has been focusing on his strength and conditioning under the supervision of multiple coaches as he looks to hit the ground running once he returns to the pitch.

United also released official footage of Dorgu undergoing his rehabilitation, in which the player can be seen cycling, kicking a ball, and performing various strengthening routines, suggesting that his return could be around the corner.

Could Dorgu return against Leeds?

United's next fixture does not come for another three weeks due to the international break and the FA Cup weekend, of which United will play no part.

It's expected that Lisandro Martínez and Noussair Mazraoui will both return to the squad for the game against Leeds United at Old Trafford on 13 April, and there is scope for Dorgu to return, too.

The initial prognosis had his rehabilitation set at ten weeks, which lands in the middle of the international break. While caution is warranted regarding expectations and a further official update is needed before Dorgu's return can be defined, the signs are positive.

Michael Carrick will host a pre-match press conference ahead of the tie against Leeds to explain the latest on the Dane's return, although don't be surprised if the club releases further footage of the player training on grass before then.
