Amorim lauds Lisandro Martínez's impactful return, highlighting his character and composure after a lengthy absence in Manchester United's victory.

Ruben Amorim praised Lisandro Martinez after Manchester United's victory over Newcastle in the Premier League. The Argentine wore the captain's armband and started a match after 327 days.

This Friday's victory by Manchester United over Newcastle was special. Not only was it the only Boxing Day match, marking a historic milestone, but also because of Lisandro Martínez's return to the starting lineup for the Old Trafford side. The ligament injury in his knee is now in the past. The defender reappeared in the starting 11 after 327 days.

The player from Entre Ríos played 88 minutes in the 1-0 victory over the Magpies in the Premier League. He wore the captain's armband in the absence of a key player like Bruno Fernandes. True to his style, Lisandro provided solidity in defense, good distribution when playing out from the back, and, above all, calmness to a defensive line that had been a bundle of doubts.

This great performance by the world champion was highlighted by Rubén Amorim. The Portuguese coach of the Red Devils, who has been questioned on more than one occasion, praised the Argentine's character and quality with the ball at his feet.

When asked about Lisandro's return, the Portuguese manager began: "He is someone with a lot of character and is very good with the ball." Along the same lines, he highlighted: "He is a world champion and is used to pressure. Today, he showed that he is a great player. Sometimes people talk about his height, but he performed very well against a team with tall players."

With a goal from Danish player Patrick Dorgu, the Red Devils defeated Newcastle and climbed the Premier League standings. It was 1-0 for Amorim's side, which wants to continue on the winning path this Tuesday, Dec. 30, when they host Wolverhampton, the bottom team in the table, at Old Trafford.
