World Cup winners Tuchel and Ancelotti are leading candidates for the Manchester United hot seat, but Carrick's interim role remains uncertain.
Although it has been a wonderful start to life as Manchester United manager for Michael Carrick, there is absolutely no guarantee that he will be at the club next season.
When he was announced as manager, it was confirmed that his role would be "until the end of the season". Now, that does not mean it is set in stone that he will leave in the summer, but no long or even medium-term contract was handed out, consciously or otherwise.
There has been anticipation that United would make an external appointment at the end of the 25/26 campaign, though with each win Carrick oversees, that suggestion begins to slowly die down.
Nevertheless, names from afar are often mentioned. Two names brought up by Mark Ogden of ESPN are Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti, managers of the England and Brazil national teams, respectively.
He says that the two are "leading candidates" for the role, though he also says there is every chance that Carrick is in charge at the beginning of the 26/27 season, so clearly it is a little bit up in the air.
There is no rush. Whatever happens from here, Carrick will be in charge for the rest of this season, giving United several months to carefully consider who they bring in, externally or otherwise.
It had been previously mentioned that the club may look at some of the managers who will be managing at the World Cup. They will know that they are not attainable before the tournament, so maybe it was a conscious decision to appoint a temporary manager like Carrick until May, before seeing who is available this summer.
The issue is, even if someone like Tuchel or Ancelotti were available after the World Cup, you don't know when they will be ready to start. The final is not until the 19th of July. So, in that scenario, at the earliest (and still very unlikely), they would start their role on the 20th of July - less than a month before the start of the season.
Many will recall back in 2014, Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side reached the semi-finals, with their tournament finishing on the 12th July. United didn't look prepared at the start of the season, being embarrassed 4-0 by League One side MK Dons in the Carabao Cup second round.
Still, it would be pretty exciting to see someone of Tuchel or Ancelotti's calibre at Old Trafford. But for now, let's keep backing Carrick.
