Pursued by Atletico de Madrid this winter, Lee Kang-In remains an important part of Luis Enrique's squad and fully intends to continue his adventure in Paris.
After a good first half of the season with Paris Saint-Germain, Lee Kang-In saw his progress halted by a thigh injury during the Intercontinental Cup against Flamengo last December 17. And after a month and a half out, the South Korean international returned to competition this Sunday against RC Strasbourg.
A winning return for the former Mallorca player. Coming on in the 60th minute of play, the 24-year-old quickly made his presence felt in this tricky match against Strasbourg.
His introduction had an impact on the Parisian victory, epitomized by his excellent work on the winning goal by Nuno Mendes.
Before his injury, the Parisian number 19 was on an upward trajectory, being decisive in three of his last five Ligue 1 matches. In his 30 minutes played at La Meinau, Lee Kang-in touched the ball 36 times, completed his dribbles (two of two), made a key pass, and was physically present by winning all his duels (five of five).
His return will be a real asset for Luis Enrique in the second half of the season. "At PSG, some internal voices maintain there is no one better than him technically," reports L'Equipe.
After the match, Luis Enrique did not miss the opportunity to praise the return of his attacking midfielder: "He has that important ability to keep the ball. When a team defends with aggression, it's important to have a player who doesn't lose the ball under pressure. He made good defensive and offensive actions. It's positive to get players back from injury. He was important to us."
While Atletico de Madrid showed interest in the South Korean this winter, "it must be believed that the circumstances were no longer quite the same as last summer when he had questioned the next step in his Parisian adventure," clarifies the cited outlet.
The player thus declined the Madrid offer. It was also inconceivable for the Parisian management to part ways with their player at this stage of the season. The idea would even be to extend his contract, as he is tied to the Rouge et Bleu until 2028.
