Lens reclaims Ligue 1 lead, coach declares, "We are putting pressure on PSG," intensifying the title race.

Last week, Paris Saint-Germain reclaimed the lead in Ligue 1. It has temporarily ceded it again to Lens, which defeated Le Havre last night during the 20th matchday of Ligue 1.

While PSG completely dominated Ligue 1 last season, during this 2025/26 campaign, it is battling RC Lens for first place. Last week, the capital's club had retaken the top spot in the league with its hard-fought victory against Auxerre, 0-1, and the loss by Lens against Marseille, 3-1.

Last night, Lens could temporarily return to first place with its match against Le Havre. And against Le Havre, the Lensois won by the slimmest of margins, 1-0, to temporarily become leaders again.

PSG must win against Strasbourg tomorrow to reclaim its place. Following the Lens victory, Pierre Sage, the coach of the northern club, spoke about this head-to-head with PSG.

Lens Coach Sends Message to PSG After Taking Ligue 1 Lead

"We are putting pressure on PSG. Luis Enrique said when winning at Auxerre that he was putting pressure on Lens; we are also putting pressure on PSG. It is very easy to play on Friday when you win, because you can watch the matches calmly. And they play with that in mind," said the Lens coach in a press conference, as reported by RMC Sport.

"We are always pursuing our goal of achieving the number of points we are aiming for to attack Europe. We are two wins away from that objective. Having retaken first place tonight is something positive, but what matters is the points tally. I do not think we are fighting a long-term battle with PSG."

Ligue 1 Standings Before Strasbourg vs. PSG:

  1. Lens: 46 points (+18)
  2. PSG: 45 points (+26) (one game in hand)
  3. Marseille: 38 points (+24)
