Marquinhos reveals the mental fortitude and tactical adjustments that fueled PSG's stunning turnaround against Monaco.

Captain Marquinhos spoke in the mixed zone Tuesday night after PSG's comeback victory at Monaco (3-2) in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs.

The Brazilian reflected on his team's complicated start to the match and praised the strong entrance of Desire Doue, who scored a brace and was involved in Achraf Hakimi's goal. Marquinhos also praised his team's mentality, instilled by Luis Enrique.

"All victories do good; they give confidence. We started the match poorly, making mistakes in duels and defensive positioning that led to the goal. Our team is like that. Even when we lose 2-0, 5-0, if we win, if the match is difficult, if it's easy... we don't change anything; it's our philosophy, and once again we showed the mentality to overcome a match. Here, it's very difficult; we've always had complicated matchups here. So this victory gives a lot of confidence for the future and I hope we'll continue on the momentum from the end of the match."

Is there regret at not having scored a 4th or 5th goal?

"Yes, yes. I think we had the chances and a lot of time with an extra player (Golovin saw red in the 48th minute, editor's note). But the most important thing was really the victory. We know there's still a return leg. If it had been 4-2 or 5-2, it wouldn't have changed anything. We'll play in Paris with the same aggressive mentality, aiming to win the match. It's our home, our supporters."

Desire Doue changed the course of the match. His entrance was very good today...

"Yes, that's why he was MVP (of the match). We're all happy for him. I think it's the best way to always work and respond in the field, always. That's what he did. That's what we talked a lot about during the week, always about the collective, always about continuing to work. He's a great kid, he's a great player. We know his quality. It's normal to have difficult moments. I've seen players with the names they had come to PSG and be criticized. For him, it can be normal. It's always mentality and work that will pay off afterward. That's what he did today. He started on the bench. He came in with a good mentality and energy. He changed the match; he was very decisive, and it's pleasing to have a player like that."

How do you explain those first 20 minutes?

"We made some mistakes, which we talked about afterward and corrected. Our positioning was much better after that. I'm talking about small details in duels, defensive positioning, and defensive coverage. We managed to fix that, and after that, they barely had any chances. We managed to turn this match in our favor. It's important when we make mistakes to be able to talk to each other, to be honest with ourselves, and that's what we did. We talked and corrected some small mistakes right at the end of the first half. It brought us something extra to come back in the score."

Can we say that the team is mentally indestructible?

"I think no one is indestructible. There's no indestructible team. We have a mentality that our coach works on daily. It's our philosophy. I think that's what he likes, he pushes us to have this mentality throughout the whole match. We've had many difficult matches, and we've also had easier ones, but he's always very demanding with us, telling us not to change anything. Whether we lose, whether we win, whether we have an extra player or one less, we always have to be aggressive, try to control the match, make the necessary movements and have possession. That's our philosophy, regardless of the occasion or the opponent. We'll always try to do our best. We're not perfect, we're human, sometimes we're better, sometimes we're less good, sometimes we're more effective than others, but that's why there's no indestructible team."
