No fewer than eight players are already certain to miss the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Olympique de Marseille for the Trophee des Champions (French Super Cup) this Thursday night in Kuwait, whether due to the Africa Cup of Nations, suspension, or injury. Several other players are uncertain for this Derby. Here's an update three days out.
Sandwiched between two derbies against Paris FC, the PSG vs. Marseille for the Trophee des Champions will be contested this Thursday in Kuwait, starting at 7 p.m., French time (10:00 a.m. PT, 1:00 p.m. ET).
A fixture that will definitely be missed by five PSG players, including the two African internationals Achraf Hakimi and Ibrahim Mbaye, who qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals with Morocco and Senegal. Those quarterfinals will be played this Friday.
In addition to these two absences, Luis Enrique will still be without his three injured players, Matvey Safonov, Lee Kang-in, and Quentin Ndjantou. There is also a doubt surrounding the presence of David Boly, who suffered an ankle injury before the break and was not present in the squad called up for last Sunday's derby against Paris FC.
PSG is off this Monday and will train Tuesday morning at the Campus in Poissy before flying to Kuwait. More information will be available at that time regarding the players who are confirmed and the potential young players who will be making the trip. Barring a bad surprise, no player was injured during the victory against Paris FC on Sunday.
On the Marseille side, which began its 2026 year with a 2-0 home defeat against FC Nantes, Roberto De Zerbi will be without Nayef Aguerd, who is currently participating in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco. The Italian manager will also be without two players against PSG: Arthur Vermeeren and Bilal Nadir. The two midfielders are on the trip to Kuwait but will not be able to play.
Marseille unveiled a 28-player squad for the Derby against PSG this Monday and notably called up several players who are no longer in the club's plans, such as Neal Maupay, Pol Lirola, and Ulisses Garcia. The three have made the trip to Kuwait but have little chance of being used on Thursday against PSG.
Ill and unavailable against FC Nantes, Marseille's Argentine captain Leonardo Balerdi has also been called up for the Trophee des Champions, but was not in the team photo shared by the official account of the Marseille club before its departure for Kuwait. Will Balerdi join his teammates later, like Mayulu before the Intercontinental Cup? That remains to be seen in the coming hours.
