Safonov heroics crowned PSG's Intercontinental Cup win. Dive into the match's drama and individual player performances that secured the historic triumph.

Paris Saint-Germain faced Flamengo in Al-Rayyan, Qatar, for the 2025 Intercontinental Cup final, and the match was very hard-fought, as expected. Paris opened the scoring through Kvaratskhelia in the first half, but a penalty conceded by Marquinhos allowed Flamengo to equalize.

The match was undecided until the end, finishing in a penalty shootout, and Safonov, a surprise starter, then stopped almost everything, with four saves in five attempts. The Russian put PSG on top of the world.

PSG's official lineup against Flamengo: Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz (Ndjantou, 106th); Doue (Dembele, 78th), Lee (Mayulu, 35th) (Barcola, 64th), Kvaratskhelia (Mbaye, 90th).

The PSG bench: Chevalier, Marin, Beraldo, Zabarnyi, Hernandez, Mayulu, Ndjantou, Mbaye, Barcola, Dembele and Ramos.

Below are the Parisians' ratings for this PSG vs. Flamengo:

Matvey Safonov (9, MVP): Virtually unemployed for 120 minutes, then the most successful penalty shootout performance by a PSG goalkeeper in history.

Warren Zaire-Emery (8): A timid start before a powerful rise in performance until the very end.

Marquinhos (3): A penalty that almost proved very costly, a missed match-winning chance, unreliable long balls—fortunately, there were still a few good defensive moments.

Willian Pacho (6): Solid overall, but struggled to truly dominate his direct opponent.

Nuno Mendes (5): Very good in phases, catastrophic at other moments, with avoidable errors that had significant consequences.

Vitinha (6): An inconsistent presence in the heart of PSG's play, with diminishing influence as the match progressed.

Joao Neves (7): Precision and impact all over the pitch, with several good chances to his name.

Fabian Ruiz (6): A huge defensive effort, less precision in the attacking phase despite a superb disallowed goal.

Desire Doue (6): Some very successful actions but also significant waste with costly ball losses.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (6): A very important goal, good in general play, but with difficulties in one-on-one situations.

Kang In Lee and Senny Mayulu (5): Both had the same match - beautiful technical flashes, but struggled against the opponents' physicality.

Bradley Barcola (5): Made a big difference with the ball at his feet, but still lacked precision in the final action.
