Temporarily placed second after Lens's 1-0 victory on Friday night, Paris Saint-Germain is again the Ligue 1 leader this Monday morning after its 2-1 success at Strasbourg.
This 20th matchday allowed PSG and Lens to widen the gap over Marseille, whom Luis Enrique's men host this Sunday at the Parc des Princes.
The 20th matchday of Ligue 1 allowed PSG and Lens to widen the gap over third place, now occupied by the two Olympique clubs (Marseille and Lyon).
On Friday night, Lens did the essential by winning 1-0 against Le Havre thanks to a goal from Ruben Aguilar just before halftime. The Blood and Gold were then provisionally atop the league with 46 points.
But Sunday night, a PSG reduced to 10 men after Achraf Hakimi's sending off, who will miss the OM reception on Sunday, went on to win 2-1 at Strasbourg thanks to a winning goal from Nuno Mendes, following a cross from Warren Zaire-Emery on the right flank.
It is the sixth consecutive victory for PSG in Ligue 1. With 48 points after 20 matchdays, PSG leads Ligue 1 and has just two points fewer than at the same time last season (50 points) and one more than during Luis Enrique's first season (47 points).
Above all, the title race now seems to concern only two teams, as OM managed to share points with Paris FC on Saturday after leading 2-0 until the 82nd minute, when Jonathan Ikone, a PSG academy product, scored the gap-closing goal. Marseille-born Ilan Kebbal then equalized from the penalty spot for the Parisians in added time.
With the PSG vs. OM Classic looming this Sunday night at the Parc des Princes to close the 21st matchday, PSG holds a nine-point lead over OM, who were joined this weekend by Lyon, which beat Lille 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a goal from its new Danish signing, Noah Nartey. Lyon is now on a run of five consecutive Ligue 1 wins (10 across all competitions) and also has 39 points.
Sunday night, PSG will therefore host OM to close the 21st matchday. On Saturday, Lens will host Rennes, while Lyon will travel to Nantes in the evening. Monaco, who PSG will face in the Champions League playoffs, won 4-0 against Rennes this weekend and will travel to Nice on Sunday. The Monegasques are 10th in Ligue 1, 21 points behind PSG.
