PSG's dominant 5-0 win shattered viewing records for Ligue 1+, captivating France and highlighting the league's growing broadcast reach.

The LFP has communicated the viewership for Sunday night's Paris Saint-Germain vs. Marseille match (5-0), which was broadcast exclusively on Ligue 1+. And the Ligue's new channel achieved its second-best audience of the season, but with a record peak.

While it is difficult to know if Ligue 1+ will manage to survive in the coming months, the LFP announced a more than decent viewership for the recent PSG vs. Marseille match (5-0) on the 21st matchday of Ligue 1.

The Parisian recital thus attracted an average of 1.1 million viewers on Ligue 1+, according to Mediametrie, making it the second-best audience of the season behind the Marseille vs. PSG match (1-0) from last September 22, which had attracted an average of 1.2 million viewers.

But the LFP welcomed a new record set during PSG vs. Marseille (5-0), with a peak of 1.4 million viewers (achieved at the end of the first half, according to L'Equipe).

Last September, the LFP had already communicated a peak of 1.4 million viewers after Marseille vs. PSG (1-0), but assures that Sunday night's peak was slightly higher. The LFP adds that 2.1 million French people followed the PSG vs. Marseille match (5-0) on Sunday night "in total," without it being entirely clear where this figure comes from or what it corresponds to.

PSG vs. Marseille Viewership Close to That of Marseille vs. Ajax

On November 9, the clash of the 12th matchday of Ligue 1, Lyon vs. PSG (2-3), itself brought together an average of 903,000 viewers on Ligue 1+, with a peak of 1.07 million viewers. Until Sunday, this was the third-best audience of the season for the LFP channel, as the recent Trophee des champions between PSG and Marseille also brought together an average of 903,000 viewers, but with a peak of 1.2 million viewers at the end of the match.

In comparison to PSG and Marseille's viewership in the Champions League this season, the viewership for Sunday night's "Classique" is around the levels of the Marseille vs. Newcastle (1.07 million on Canal+ Foot) and Marseille vs. Ajax (1.17 million on Canal+ Foot) matches. However, it is far from Real Madrid vs. Marseille (2.01 million on Canal+) and Barcelona vs. PSG (1.88 million on Canal+), but it remains encouraging nonetheless, given the difference in subscribers between Canal+ and Ligue 1+.
