Young talent Warren Zaire-Emery believes PSG's fluid style unlocks their potential for "great things" as they eye more success.
Again, very good at Nice on Saturday night (0-4) and also the scorer of the final goal with a bit of luck, Warren Zaire-Emery was on Ligue 1+ after the match, and he shared PSG's lofty ambitions, driven by a style of play that he really enjoys.
Q: In Nice, a response was expected after Lens' good victory on Friday. You delivered, more than delivered, you are again in first place before this final break of the season.
A: "We know that before the break, it's always a difficult match coming out of the Champions League. Now, the objective was to come here, play a match like we usually do, put our high press and a lot of intensity. That's what we did very well. We'll rest well and go to national team duty in the best way possible."
Q: (Guillaume Hoarau asks him) What was your goal? What was that goal? Tell me about it. I was far away, but I thought I saw shin then shin (laughs).
A: "I don't even know. I didn't see it. (laughs)"
Q: We've all noticed it lately. You're on a real upward trajectory. Your progress is incredible. It's precisely this freedom that you have, that you have on the field to push forward, to change positions. The coach really gives you freedom on the field. How does that work for you? How do you feel? Because you really seem strong at the moment.
A: "There are zones where there always needs to be a player. And then we do pretty much what we want, as long as there are players in the zones the coach wants. And this mobility allows us to have players all over the field and be dangerous everywhere. And honestly, I think everyone likes it. We need to continue in this direction because it's hard to defend against a team where you don't know where the player is going to go, where there's always one taking the other's spot. We just need to continue. I think we can do great things again this year."
Q: The numbers this season say you are more influential on the right side. Any reaction to that?
A: "I don't know. How many games have I played in midfield, and how many games on the side? It's nice to be able to play everywhere. I have that quality. It's important to have it because it's good for the coach, for me, and for everyone. And I continue doing what I love: running, playing, and moving forward. I'm having fun being on the field. I just want to continue and have the best season possible."
Q: If they offered you a starting spot right back on the French national team, would you sign?
A: "With pleasure. Every day and anywhere, even as a goalkeeper."
Q: You can sense the growth. On the field, we see you being much more daring. What was the key moment for you in your progression?
A: "I'd say I had a more difficult period. The France Under-21 team, when I went there (in October), really did me good. And the fact of playing and continuing to string together matches, I think it gave me rhythm. It gave me this power that I have in my legs, and it also did me good mentally; it allowed me to continue in this momentum and do what I love to do."
