PSG's sporting director details the crucial human element behind landing Willian Pacho, revealing a player's passion sealed the deal.

Luis Campos spoke at length to the Madrid outlet Marca, which published a three-page interview with the sporting adviser for Paris Saint-Germain and QSI this Friday.

An opportunity for the Portuguese executive to share several savory anecdotes, including one about the recruitment of Willian Pacho in the summer of 2024.

In the football world for years, Luis Campos has 1,000 anecdotes and can talk for hours about his passion for this wonderful sport. The Portuguese spoke this week with the Madrid daily Marca, which this Friday publishes a fascinating interview with PSG's sporting director.

Luis Campos addressed many topics and spoke extensively about Luis Enrique and everything the Spaniard has brought to PSG since he arrived in 2023. The Portuguese executive was also asked about the growing place of artificial intelligence and big data in scouting, his specialty.

"I think technology will never surpass the human aspect, because our capacity to feel remains stronger than all the data provided to us," shares Campos. "I love technology, but in the end, I must feel, see, perceive, know... Often, this happens through a player's attitude, through a lunch, a dinner, a walk, through listening to the player or understanding a gesture."

And to better convey his message, Campos gave a very interesting example, that of the recruitment of Willian Pacho in the summer of 2024. "When I contacted him for the first time, he was in Ecuador, and I told him: 'I am going to come there because I need to meet you and present the club's project to you.' He replied: 'Mr. Luis Campos, you are saying PSG wants to sign me? I will be in Madrid tomorrow! I arrive at 9 a.m.' Wow! I called Luis Enrique and told him, 'This boy will give everything for us.' His attitude showed me that I had found someone who was hungry."

Campos added about the Ecuadorian rock: "I already knew him on the field, but he also made a very good impression on me. I left Paris for Madrid, we spent the day together, and at the end, I said to myself, 'He must come to PSG.' Soon after meeting him, Luis Enrique was already talking to him about tactics, what he expected from him, what he had to do on the field... It was a beautiful moment. Pacho's story defines our policy well."
