Key midfielder sidelined, a significant blow as PSG faces Chelsea. His return remains uncertain, fueling fan anxiety.
Absent since Jan. 20 and his knock to his left knee against Sporting CP, Fabian Ruiz is still in pain, according to his entourage, and the date of his return remains unknown. He will be absent at least until March 13, according to the club.
What was initially supposed to be just a simple knock to the left knee is turning into a serious physical problem, as worrying for Fabian Ruiz, who has been absent for 6 weeks and 1 day since his injury in Lisbon against Sporting.
Last Friday, on the eve of Le Havre vs. PSG, the club announced in its medical update that the Spanish midfielder "will carry out adapted individual work these next two weeks to relieve his knee pain," he who had resumed individual training a few days earlier.
Fabian Ruiz will therefore be absent at least until Friday, March 13, and will thus miss a tenth consecutive match against Monaco this Friday night in Ligue 1 as well as an eleventh next Wednesday against Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Will he be fit for the return at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, March 17, or against Nice on Sunday, March 22? That seems quite unlikely, especially since there will be an international break immediately after, which will give him another two weeks to heal.
Last Friday, Luis Enrique didn't say much new about his compatriot's injury, even if he was optimistic: "There are injuries that heal faster than expected, others like Fabian's that heal less quickly, it's normal, but it's not easy. It's a real problem for us to have important players like Fabian on the sidelines for so long, but we remain optimistic."
PSG also took care to tell L'Equipe last Saturday that Fabian Ruiz had not suffered a relapse in recent days, as feared by many, but was still suffering from the knock to his left knee, which explains his prolonged absence. "When he feels ready, he will rejoin the group; there is no deadline given," his entourage also confided to the sports daily last week. Le Parisien also contacted Ruiz's entourage in recent hours, and the latter repeated that "as long as he has pain, he will not return." Not very reassuring.
