The 24th round of Ligue 1 was profitable for PSG, which finally opened up a small gap over its runner-up Lens and dropped Lyon, beaten Sunday evening in Marseille.
For the 14th time this season, PSG is the leader of Ligue 1 this Monday morning, following the 24th round. PSG won 1-0 at Le Havre on Saturday evening, while Lens was held to a draw at Strasbourg on Friday (1-1), and Lyon lost 3-2 at Marseille on Sunday evening after leading twice on the scoreboard.
The upshot: PSG has 57 points after 24 rounds and now has a 4-point lead over its runner-up Lens and a 12-point lead over Lyon. A 4-point lead is simply twice as much as PSG's biggest lead in Ligue 1 this season, which says a lot about the slim margin of Luis Enrique's team in the league so far, but also about the good operation achieved this weekend.
Last season, PSG had a 3-point lead over its runner-up after 9 rounds, then a 6-point lead after the 10th round. PSG then cruised and was eventually crowned French champion with a 19-point lead over Marseille. In the comparison game, PSG has 5 fewer points than last season at the same stage, while its current runner-up, Lens, has 4 more points than last season's Parisian runner-up (Marseille).
Ligue 1 standings after the 24th round:
The 25th round of Ligue 1 begins this Friday evening with a new PSG vs. Monaco clash, while Lens hosts Metz on Sunday and Lyon hosts Paris FC on Sunday evening. Before that, Lyon and Lens will face each other this Thursday evening in the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France.
