Young PSG defender Emmanuel Mbemba, out of contract soon, is reportedly nearing a move to Bayern Munich, continuing a German trend.

Out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain in June, the young Parisian defender Emmanuel Mbemba, 17, could sign his first professional contract with a German club, like many defenders trained at PSG before him.

Bundesliga scouts love the Paris region and closely follow promising young players from PSG. For 10 years, many academy graduates have signed their first pro contract with a German club, and particularly central defenders, with relative success (see bottom of news).

According to L'Equipe, Emmanuel Mbemba could be the next on the list. Born in 2008, this 17-year-old French defender, who can play centrally or at left-back, is at the end of his contract with PSG on June 30 and could commit to Bayern Munich or Bayer Leverkusen for next season, with L'Equipe specifying that the Bavarian club has a head start.

A French Under-18 international, Mbemba participated in the last Under-17 World Cup in Qatar with the French team, like Lucas Batbedat and Pierre Mounguengue, two other 2008-born PSG players. The young Blues were eliminated in the round of 16 by Brazil, and Mbemba started three of the team's five matches during the competition.

This season, Mbemba has played 10 national U19 league matches with PSG, two Coupe Gambardella matches (but not the round of 16 against Le Mans), and made a brief appearance in the Youth League (three minutes against Tottenham last Nov. 26). On Wednesday, he did not participate in the 4-0 round of 16 victory over Minsk.

Unlike Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi, who joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2020 after playing 13 matches under Thomas Tuchel, Emmanuel Mbemba has never trained with Luis Enrique's professional team and has no professional team matches to his name.
