Two days before the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Flamengo match, this Wednesday, it is already possible to predict the lineups for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final. On the Parisian side, there are several uncertainties, particularly in goal and in defense.
Winner against Metz on Saturday night with a reshuffled team (3-2), PSG arrived in Doha on Sunday, where it will take advantage of its presence on site to carry out some commercial actions with the club's Qatari sponsors, but above all to prepare for its Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo on Wednesday.
PSG is aiming for a 6th title in 2025 after having already won earlier this year the Champions Trophy, the French Cup, Ligue 1, the Champions League, and the European Super Cup.
Except for Achraf Hakimi, currently in Morocco to prepare for the African Cup of Nations and finalize his convalescence, Luis Enrique has a full squad for this final against the Brazilians, even if Senny Mayulu will only arrive in Qatar this Monday after resting one more day in Paris due to his viral syndrome from last weekend. There is little chance, therefore, of seeing Mayulu start on Wednesday against Flamengo.
The major uncertainty before the match on the Parisian side concerns the identity of the goalkeeper. Matvey Safonov took advantage of Lucas Chevalier's ankle injury to record two clean sheets against Rennes and then Bilbao, and was still the starter against Metz on Saturday despite the French goalkeeper's return to the squad. Now recovered, will Chevalier be the starter for this final? That seems to be the trend with two days to go.
In front of him, we should normally see from right to left Warren Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, and Nuno Mendes. Marquinhos was rested against Metz due to "muscle fatigue in the right hip," but is a candidate for a starting spot against his compatriots. If he could not hold his place, Ilya Zabarnyi should replace him, as last Saturday.
In midfield, Joao Neves should regain his starting spot after being on the bench against Metz and will play alongside Vitinha (90 minutes on Saturday) and Fabian Ruiz (who only played the first half on Saturday). Finally, in attack, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are candidates for a starting spot on the wings after being substitutes against Metz (they came on in the 66th minute), while Desire Doue, who came on at halftime against Metz and then scored, has a good chance of starting as a false nine. Back from illness, Ousmane Dembele should be a substitute.
PSG's predicted lineup vs. Flamengo: Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Barcola, Doue, Kvaratskhelia.
On the Flamengo side, which won the Copa Libertadores and then the Brazilian championship at the end of this year, before reaching the Intercontinental Cup final thanks to its victories against Cruz Azul and then Pyramids FC, Filipe Luis should field a team close to the one that started on Saturday against the Egyptians.
Several known Brazilian players have passed through the Old Continent, such as former Torino players Alex Sandro and Danilo, who now play in central defense, or Jorginho, the former defensive midfielder for Arsenal and Chelsea. One must also be wary of the Uruguayan playmaker Giorgian de Arrascaeta, author of two goals against Cruz Azul and two assists against Pyramids FC.
Flamengo's predicted lineup vs. PSG: Rossi; Varela, Danilo, Leo Pereira, Alex Sandro; Pulgar, Jorginho; Carrascal, De Arrascaeta, Everton (or Lino); Bruno Henrique.
