Real Madrid is looking to bring back one of its most brilliant academy graduates to bolster the right-back position, according to reports. The sporting directorate is seeking a successor for Dani Carvajal, and the name of PSG star Achraf Hakimi tops the priority lists.
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, despite his current commitment to Paris Saint-Germain, the player reportedly wants to return to the Spanish capital.
This transfer is more complicated than usual due to the Parisian club's potential financial demands. PSG "values its star at a figure close to €80 million," the cited outlet explains — a fairly low price, truth be told, and hardly believable.
Real Madrid believes the African defender could make significant financial sacrifices, including a salary reduction, to facilitate his return. "Sources close to the fullback's circle assure that he is eagerly awaiting official communication from Real Madrid's offices to initiate his departure from France," the cited report says.
Hakimi, 27, would consider his Ligue 1 spell successful, but his sporting ambition would drive him to triumph at the club where he trained. The Moroccan wingback recently renewed his contract through 2029, giving PSG a position of considerable strength at any negotiating table. His renewal also suggests Hakimi has no intention of going anywhere and that these reports are mere speculation.
This contractual situation would force Los Blancos' leadership to act carefully to avoid institutional conflicts with the Doha and Paris offices. The player feels happy in his current city, but according to the cited outlet, the call from the Santiago Bernabéu represents a professional opportunity he "is not willing to let slip away."
Real Madrid has no intention of shelling out large sums of money, as is typical under Florentino Pérez. The Madrid club's strategy consists of waiting for the right moment and leveraging the pressure the defender himself might exert on his current technical leadership.
Real Madrid greatly values the international experience the defender has accumulated in leagues as competitive as the German, Italian, and French. "Having a wingback who already knows the institution's idiosyncrasies is a competitive advantage that few players on the market can currently offer," wrote Fichajes' Javier Parra.
The operation will require precise financial engineering to adjust the transfer fee to the sustainability parameters currently in place at Valdebebas. Additionally, it would require a willingness from the player that, frankly, does not appear to exist as of today.
