Guerin analyzes PSG's playoff clash, revealing why their "less oppressive" style favors them over Monaco's tactical approach.

In the Champions League playoffs, Paris Saint-Germain will face AS Monaco. According to Vincent Guerin, PSG has the tools to eliminate the Monagasques.

Having finished 11th in the Champions League league phase, PSG will have to go through the playoffs to try and qualify for the round of 16. Yesterday at noon, the draw for these playoffs took place. And the capital's club was drawn against AS Monaco.

The Parisians will travel to the Stade Louis II on February 17 before hosting the Monagasques at the Parc des Princes on the 25th. For Vincent Guerin, a former PSG midfielder, the European champions have the tools to eliminate Monaco, even if they perhaps inspire a bit less fear than last season, according to Guerin.

Vincent Guerin Backs PSG Over Monaco, Cites "Less Oppressive" Style

"PSG has the tools to get through this round. But this team inspires less fear in its opponents than last season; it is less oppressive. You can sense there is less control, less aggression, and more vulnerabilities. Last year, they navigated the challenges with a certain ease; today, they can misjudge a corner and fall," stated the former PSG player in an interview with Le Parisien.

"At the moment we are speaking, it is more complicated to imagine this team achieving a deep run in the competition."

On the other hand, sporting director Thiago Scuro first lamented "the fact that two French clubs are facing each other: it is not the best possible scenario, given the possibility of seeing two French teams continue the adventure in this Champions League, which is very important for the league."

But the Monaco executive then assured that this draw, rather than Newcastle, which was the other possible opponent, suited them very well.

"We are confident, even though we are experiencing a season with ups and downs and many different emotions. Despite everything, we are still in contention in all three competitions, Ligue 1 obviously, the Champions League, and the Coupe de France, so we still have great things to do. We have quality and good players, we showed it in the last match against Paris, which we won here in Monaco, 1-0."
