Mohamed Salah's recent injury casts doubt on his availability for the Champions League game vs. PSG.

Goal scorer and assist provider on Wednesday night against Galatasaray, Mohamed Salah came off injured in the 74th minute. Arne Slot provided an update on his Egyptian striker on Friday and does not yet know if he will be able to face PSG on April 8, although he hopes so.

The duel between Nuno Mendes and Mohamed Salah largely went in favor of the PSG left back last season, both in the first leg at Parc des Princes and the return leg at Anfield. Will the Portuguese be matched up again against the Egyptian winger on April 8 for the Champions League quarterfinal first leg between PSG and Liverpool? Not certain.

Mohamed Salah, who started Wednesday night on his favored right wing against Galatasaray, missed a penalty before halftime, then provided an assist for Hugo Ekitike and scored with a curled left-footed shot of which he holds the secret. But the Reds' No. 11 had to give way to Cody Gakpo in the 74th minute after feeling something, as Arne Slot announced after the match.

Speaking to the media again on Friday, on the eve of Brighton vs. Liverpool, the Dutch coach confirmed that Salah was injured. "It's unusual (for him to be injured) and I think you can guess the rest, he will not be available for tomorrow," Slot said, without committing to the length of his unavailability.

"The good news for us is that we are entering an international break," Slot added. "The bad news for Egypt is that he won't be able to go. But we also hope, given what Mo has shown in the past, that he will recover faster than other players in similar situations because he takes such good care of his body. History has shown that he can come back sooner than some others. But there are only two weeks until our next match (against Manchester City in the FA Cup, on April 4), so let's hope he can be back by then."

Arne Slot then specified that it was indeed a muscle injury for his 33-year-old left-footer, who is having a sluggish season, even though he has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists. But this is far from last season's performance from the Egyptian, who scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists in all competitions, without shining against PSG.

It even makes one wonder whether it would not be preferable for Paris to have this 2025/26 version of Mohamed Salah start on April 8 at Parc des Princes, especially if he is just coming back from a muscle injury. If the Egyptian is absent for the first leg, Slot could replace him like-for-like with Cody Gakpo, or decide to push Jeremie Frimpong up a position, with potentially Joe Gomez at right back.
