Sources: Manchester United line up managerial replacement options with Carrick departure imminent
Manchester United lost 0-3 to Marco Rose’s Bournemouth today in a game that felt like that one that Michael Carrick needed to come out of with three points otherwise pressure would mount even further. At the time of writing (Sunday night), it’s understood that Michael Carrick’s departure from United is imminent and is expected to be made official in the next 24 hours. The United hierarchy have already started to eye up the managerial market for someone who would replace club legend, Michael Carrick. The following three names have been discussed with varying degrees of extensiveness. - Julian Nagelsmann: The German is understood to be one of the leading contenders for the United role and sources indicate that Manchester United have already made contact with the former Bayern Munich boss over the move back into management. The 39-year old is understood to be keen on the opportunity to manage in the Premier League. Nothing is advanced yet though. - Eddie Howe: The former Newcastle United head coach is the current frontrunner to become the next Red Devils’ gaffer just months after departing his role at the North East club. Discussions between United and Eddie Howe have taken place and are ‘accelerating’. The Englishman is understood to be the preferred option in the view of Jason Wilcox, in contrast to Christopher Vivell’s fondness of Nagelsmann. Howe appears the clear favourite for the role at present. - Antonio Conte: Manchester United contacted Conte earlier this week to understand a potential deal but nothing has advanced further and there is doubts whether Conte’s profile would match United at this time. Exclusive: Bruno Fernandes dropped from United lineup against Bournemouth
Manchester United host Bournemouth at Old Trafford today (Sunday) in a must-win game for Michael Carrick and his side. However, sources have indicated that the Red Devils’ talisman, Bruno Fernandes has been dropped from the starting lineup today due to tactical reasons - United have not won in 8 games, and most recently, suffered a battering by Serie A outfit, Como during the week in the Champions League. Bryan Mbeumo has been given a start however, with the Cameroon international netting twice in his past 4 games for the club. Official team news will be posted by Manchester United on their socials at 1245 UK time.
