Does the saying don’t fix what isn’t broken sound familiar to you?

Well, that could apply to Michael Carrick’s Manchester United.

There are some personnel differences, but at the crux of it, particularly in attacking areas, United still have the same options as last term.

When Carrick first came in, Bryan Mbeumo was used centrally, with Matheus Cunha operating from the left. This season though, Carrick has moved away from that formula, with Mbeumo being used out wide and Cunha asked to operate centrally.

Casemiro is no longer there, but in midfield, his role remains relevant. He provided the midfield with a genuine destroyer, someone whose job was to win the ball, protect the defence and allow those ahead of him to play.

That is where Carlos Baleba could come into the equation and provide much needed intensity.
