SullyTalkz EXCLUSIVE: Matheus Cunha is set to return to Manchester United's squad as Michael Carrick prepares his side to face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
With four challenging games left in their quest for Champions League football, Manchester United are entering the final stretch of the Premier League season.
Champions League football is a major target for Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS, and Michael Carrick's team are well on its way to achieving this objective, as they currently sit third in the Premier League standings with 61 points.
The Red Devils secured a huge three points last game against Brentford, which has almost guaranteed their placement in Europe's elite competition next season.
There is no room for error when it comes to adding talented players to strengthen the team, because this summer window could determine United's future over the coming years.
Outgoings will also be crucial, with multiple players, including Manuel Ugarte, André Onana, Marcus Rashford, and Altay Bayindir, expected to leave this window.
Carrick’s side faces tough opposition in Liverpool at Old Trafford tomorrow in one of the biggest seasons so far. Now he will have a big boost for the game with an important player set to return from injury.
Sources: Cunha set to return for Liverpool game
Matheus Cunha unfortunately picked up an injury during the side's 1-0 win over Chelsea on April 18, which led to his exclusion from the matchday squad for the game against Brentford last week.
The injury was deemed not serious by Carrick, and Cunha was spotted in first-team training pictures on Thursday afternoon.
Roundtable understands that the Brazilian star is set to return to the Manchester United squad against Liverpool.
Furthermore, the Brazilian international has worked hard in training this week to make the matchday squad. His return is seen as a massive boost for United given his skillset.
What does Cunha’s return mean to the side?
United’s number ten has eight goals and two assists in the Premier League campaign so far, showing that he has the ability to contribute to games.
While these numbers aren’t anything mindblowing, you have to take into consideration that a lot of the players struggled during the first half of the season under Ruben Amorim’s reign.
Cunha has been playing on the left wing under Carrick, and he has found a lot of joy there.
His return will give the Red Devils an elite attacking option in what will be a very tough game against rivals Liverpool.
