SullyTalkz exclusive: Internal tensions boiled over in the dressing room as a Champions League humiliation pushed the manager toward the exit and ignited a search for high-profile replacements.
Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League, extending their winless run to seven games across all competitions. Diogo Dalot squandered an early opportunity before Nico Paz punished Harry Maguire’s defensive positioning to fire Como ahead.
Como dominated the first half with their fluid attacking football, leaving United struggling to create chances. Maguire wasted their best opportunity when he headed Bryan Mbeumo’s cross over the bar from close range.
United started the second half aggressively following the introduction of Carlos Baleba, but Como quickly took control again. Paz set up Anastasios Douvikas to chip Senne Lammens in the 47th minute before scoring himself ten minutes later to make it 3-0.
The nightmare continued when centre-back Jacobo Ramon headed home Como’s fourth, capping a memorable night for the Italian side. Joshua Zirkzee grabbed a consolation goal in stoppage time, finishing a move assisted by Amad, but it did little to soften United’s embarrassing defeat.
Sources: Cunha and Carrick clash vs Como
Following yet another poor performance and a 4-1 defeat to Como, Carrick's future has been in serious question. Although the players have reportedly been behind the 44-year-old since the start of the season.
However, tensions seem to be rising within the club. Roundtable understands that Carrick and Matheus Cunha had a heated argument at half-time during Como's game yesterday.
Sources have explained that Carrick wasn't happy with Cunha's performance, and the two exchanged heated words in the dressing room.
Cunha was said to be furious about being substituted and made his frustration known. The atmosphere was very tense at full time, too.
Is Carrick set to be replaced?
With questions surrounding Carrick's long-term future at an all-time high, BBC Sport have now reported that while he is continuing work as normal, United have already begun the process of identifying possible replacements.
The report states that Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, and Julian Nagelsmann have their eyes on the job, while the Daily Mail have claimed that United's shortlist also extends to Fabian Hurtzler and Kieran McKenna, too.
It has been reported that, while United admire Hurzeler, the German manager is not interested in taking over at Old Trafford.
Also, the German has no release clause in his Brighton contract, which would mean United would likely need to pay a world-record fee to secure his services. Howe, Conte and Nagelsmann, on the other hands, are free agents.
