Things are moving fast. The WNBA sent a counter-proposal to the players' union just one day after receiving one from the players on Friday — and a source familiar with negotiations told Annie Costabile that neither side is sharing details of their proposals right now. She noted that the pace of exchanges could signal that real movement is happening behind the scenes.

Tuesday is the league's self-imposed deadline for at least a handshake agreement on whether the season will start on time, May 8. Revenue sharing remains the core sticking point — the union's last public proposal sought 26% of gross revenue, while the league has countered with offers north of 70% of net revenue. Those are two very different ways of slicing the pie, which is part of why the gap has been so hard to close.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark and Breanna Stewart are both publicly pushing for the two sides to just get in a room and hash it out face-to-face. Stewart said she's skipping the FIBA World Cup qualifier trip to be available for in-person talks.

If a deal gets done by March 10, the timeline is tight but workable — expansion draft April 1-6, free agency opens April 12, training camps April 19, season tips off May 8.
