Some elite WNBA rookie seasons sparked one of the most heated basketball debates in years — Paige Bueckers or Caitlin Clark?
Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers built her case with elite efficiency and poise beyond her years. Her 44-point outburst against the Sparks — shooting an incredible 81% from the field (17-of-21) — drew national attention and prompted Candace Parker to compare her mid-range mastery to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a three-time NBA All-Star known for thriving in a three-point-obsessed era.
“Paige Bueckers got a pretty mid-range game,” Parker said on Post Moves with Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston. “So… bright future. Bright future.”
Bueckers’ rookie averages — 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 steals on 47.7% shooting, earning her All-WNBA Second Team honors and Rookie of the Year.
Still, the conversation wouldn’t be complete without Caitlin Clark, whose deep three-pointers and record-breaking scoring stretches made the league's biggest draw. Clark’s long-range shooting and playmaking have redefined spacing for Indiana, while Bueckers has built her dominance through balance, rhythm, and an old-school shot profile that’s just as effective.
Analyst Dan Patrick even likened Bueckers’ approach to both Gilgeous-Alexander and Kevin Durant, praising her ability to control the game through footwork, precision, and high-IQ shot selection.
So now the question belongs to the fans — and the numbers may not tell the whole story.
Who had the better rookie season — Paige Bueckers or Caitlin Clark? Are you more impressed by Clark’s long-range showmanship or Bueckers’ mid-range efficiency and composure under pressure?
