It’s been 25 years since the Houston Comets last lifted a WNBA trophy — but the push to bring women’s pro basketball back to the Bayou City is gaining steam.

Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor and four-time Finals MVP Cynthia Cooper both told the Houston Chronicle they believe Houston is ready for a WNBA return — if the right ownership and arena plan are in place. Chancellor said the city would “sell 10,000 tickets overnight,” while Cooper praised Tilman Fertitta’s commitment but cautioned that Toyota Center “might be a little too big” for a WNBA crowd.

With reports that Fertitta is exploring a bid to buy and relocate the Connecticut Sun, the idea of a Comets revival suddenly feels real again.

Would you support a WNBA team returning to Houston? And if so, should they bring back the Comets name — or start fresh with something new?
