As Joe Flacco continues to navigate the final chapters of his NFL career, the veteran quarterback has been around the league quite a bit. Still, even for a player who has played with multiple teams in recent years, he doesn’t sound ready to ever put on a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey.
Flacco, who spent the bulk of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, was recently asked about the idea of potentially playing for the Steelers.
Speaking recently, Flacco admitted that while he remains open-minded about his future, the Steelers would be a weird one to put on.
“I think it would be strange. I do think having a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey on would be a little more strange than even a Browns or Bengals jersey, for whatever reason, but I think at this point, I’m pretty much open for most things if I can see an opportunity in it,” Flacco said.
Once the face of the Ravens’ franchise and a Super Bowl champion, Flacco has been thrown around the league recently.
Baltimore and Pittsburgh are one of the biggest rivals in the NFL, built on crazy games, postseason battles and hatred
Flacco noted that playing with Cleveland or Cincinnati didn’t mean as much, despite both also being division rivals. That shows how big of a rivalry the Ravens and Steelers truly are.
Flacco’s decent stretch last season reminded teams that he can still be decent in the right system. He might not be a full-time starter, but he’s really not a bad player.
At this stage, Flacco doesn’t have the luxury of playing with the team he wants, more than likely. Instead, he could even have to play for a team like the Steelers.
For teams like Pittsburgh, which continues to search for a quarterback, it’s not the worst idea to have him on the roster in some capacity.
I don’t think Steelers fans will be too upset with Flacco if he doesn’t want to play in Pittsburgh. It’s not like this is Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow, two division rivals, not joining the team. He’s a fine player at this point in his career and nothing more than that.
