This is great news for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced huge Aaron Rodgers news on Friday.
Tomlin said Rodgers will start this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Rodgers didn't play in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. The future Hall of Famer fractured a bone in his left wrist in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In his first season with the Steelers, Rodgers has 1,969 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. He's completing 66.4% of his passes.
The Steelers are 6-5 on the season. They are in first place in the AFC North.
Tomlin and the Steelers haven't won a playoff game since 2016, while Rodgers hasn't won a postseason game since 2020. Pittsburgh and Rodgers agreed to a one-year contract in free agency, so this could be Rodgers' only season with the Steelers.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers said he wants the Steelers to "get a little bit more locked in."
“I think this is the time where the focus maybe has to go up a little bit more and the serious approach needs to needs to maybe tighten up a little bit more,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “I love what a loose team we are. Sometimes you gotta maybe crank that thing up just to maybe one percent and get a little bit more locked in.”
The Bills and Steelers lost in Week 12, so both teams will be motivated to win this week.
“The preparation is there, it's the execution,” Rodgers said. “This has been the entire season, you know, just a little bit off on some of the details. So we can tighten that thing up, all eleven of us, and I expect this to play really well.”
One of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Rodgers has played for the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Steelers. He has 522 passing touchdowns and 64,921 passing yards in the regular season.
“We got the fans all day to get ready, you know, or most of the day to get ready for the game,” Rodgers said. “We need a loud crowd out there and getting great effort. You know, these are the kind of games that you win and take a lot of momentum from as you move forward and obviously we know what's after this one.”
