REPORT: New York Yankees Pursuing Trade for NL All-Star cover image

The New York Yankees are reportedly pursuing a trade for this National League All-Star.

The New York Yankees already seem to be falling behind this offseason, as a bunch of top teams have made big moves while the Yankees have remained generally silent.

Of course, there is still plenty of time remaining for New York to swing some deals, and apparently, the Yankees are having trade discussions about an All-Star.

Joel Sherman of The New York Post has revealed that New York is talking to the Milwaukee Brewers about All-Star reliever Trevor Megill, who logged a 2.49 ERA while allowing 47 hits and registering 60 strikeouts over 47 innings in 2025. He also posted 30 saves.

Yes, this is the same Megill who complained about the Yankees' usage of "torpedo bats" early on in the 2025 campaign following New York's three-game sweep of the Brewers to open the season.

But with the Yanks having just lost Devin Williams to the New York Mets in free agency, they will surely be willing to let Megill's remarks slide (and let's be real: these guys are all professionals).

The question is, how much should the Yankees will be willing to surrender in return for Megill?

Megill finally came into his owns as a reliever the last couple of years, but prior to 2024, the results weren't pretty.

The 32-year-old broke into the big leagues with the Chicago Cubs in 2021 and also spent a season with the Minnesota Twins in 2022 before finally arriving in Milwaukee.

Megill owns a lifetime 3.98 ERA and 1.312 WHIP, which are rather unimpressive numbers as a whole. But perhaps the right-hander has finally figured it out.

What would be interesting to see is if the Yankees could swing a blockbuster trade for both Megill and Brewers starter Freddy Peralta, who is also up for trade.

In that case, New York would almost certainly have to part with one of Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones plus a couple of top prospects, and you have to assume that pitchers like Carlos Lagrange, Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and Bryce Cunningham would be discussed.

The Yankees definitely need to get busy soon given how quickly the market is starting to move. If they want to truly contend for a World Series in 2026, improvements must be made.
