Matthew Schmidt and I on the New York Yankees Round Table podcast have spoken a lot about what Jasson Dominguez's future might look like with the New York Yankees. The unfortunate reality of the Yankees is that Dominguez hasn't been the player they were expecting him to be when they brought him up.

That doesn't mean at such a young age that he can't be the player he wants to be eventually, but ultimately, he has to be a lot better moving forward if he wants to guarantee himself a job.

Some believe there's a possibility that this offseason, he can already lose his job, including Alexander Wilson of Empire Sports Media. Wilson went as far as to say that if the Yankees bring back Cody Bellinger or decide to give a massive deal to Kyle Tucker, there might be an opportunity for Dominguez to not be on this roster moving forward.

“As the Yankees flirt with the idea of bringing back Cody Bellinger or backing up the Brink’s truck for Kyle Tucker, we have to look at the collateral damage. Jasson Dominguez is suddenly standing on the edge of a cliff. If the Bombers fill the open vacancy in the outfield, the Martian will watch his opportunity to win the job slip away,” he wrote.

It isn’t unfair to suggest that, and Wilson also brought up another factor that might not even be considered in most Yankees fans' minds, and that's what might happen with Spencer Jones. If Jones gets an opportunity in spring training, and not just an opportunity to play, but a real opportunity to actually win a job, and he does what he did last year, there's a very good chance Dominguez won't be on this roster.

“This situation gets even stickier when you look at the farm system. Spencer Jones is coming. The towering outfield prospect is preparing to kick down the door to the majors in 2026. Jones offers the kind of athleticism and power in center field that Dominguez was supposed to bring,” he wrote.

“If Jones is the future in center and Aaron Judge is locked into right, the math doesn’t work for Dominguez. Leaving him to rot on the bench as a fourth outfielder destroys his value and stunts his growth. He needs to play every day. If that isn’t happening in Yankee Stadium, it needs to happen somewhere else.”
