A Manchester United forward has been encouraged to join AC Milan in a swap deal that could see Rafael Leao move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are preparing for a very busy summer transfer window, with midfield said to be the main priority.
A new attacker is also on the club's list of priorities. United's pursuit of Antoine Semenyo in January shows that there is a willingness at Old Trafford to invest significant money into signing a high-quality winger.
Yan Diomande is said to be of interest to United, although RB Leipzig's asking price will likely prove to be a major obstacle in a potential deal.
United are also amongst a host of clubs who are said to hold an interest in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers. Roundtable also reported in March that Everton's Iliman Ndiaye is high on United's list of targets.
Rafael Leao has also been linked to United recently, with AC Milan reportedly ready to part ways with the forward this summer, should a suitable offer arrive.
Capello urges Milan to agree to Zirkzee-Leao swap deal
AC Milan were seriously interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna two years ago, but the Dutchman eventually moved to Old Trafford in a deal worth slightly under £40 million.
Fabio Capello has said that Milan should revisit their interest in Zirkzee this summer. Capello believes that Zirkzee would be a viable replacement for Leao at AC Milan, should the Portugal international depart the San Siro this summer.
"If I were Milan, I’d make the swap immediately. I’d see the Dutchman as a much better fit in Max’s 3-5-2," Capello explained.
"Zirkzee is someone who gets the team playing and is very good at communicating with his teammates.
“For me, the Zirkzee-Pulisic partnership would be brilliant. If Sorloth and either Gimenez or Nkunku were alternatives, one could say the attack is in good shape,” Capello concluded.
A move to Italy would suit Zirkzee
Zirkzee arrived at United two years ago with a growing reputation in European football. The 24-year-old enjoyed successful spells at RSC Anderlecht and Bologna, but has struggled to impose himself in England.
Zirkzee has shown glimpses of real quality, but has struggled with consistency and has played very little football so far this season.
At times, the speed and intensity of English football have been a massive problem for Zirkzee, and a lot of his best games in a United shirt came in the Europa League last season. His performance at Old Trafford against Real Sociedad is a game that comes to mind where Zirkzee showed immense potential.
While he has struggled in England, Zirkzee's ceiling remains very high. A move to Italy or Spain would likely massively benefit the Dutch forward. The style of football in those countries is slower, less physical and a lot more technical, and that would suit Zirkzee's game very well.
