Cryptocurrencies “Shiba Inu” and “Dogecoin” are now supported by AMC mobile app

The official mobile app for AMC Theatres, the world's largest movie theater chain, now allows users to purchase tickets with the help of Shiba Inu and Dogecoin, according to an announcement from CEO Adam Aaron.

Users have to update their app to the latest version in order to pay with the largest two meme coins.

As previously reported on Bitcoin News, AMC finally added support for Shiba Inu and Dogecoin on its website in early March with the help of leading cryptocurrency payment processor BitPay.

The company decided to accept the two cryptocurrencies in late 2021 after Aaron conducted Twitter polls in order to gauge demand.

Dogecoin co-founder Billy Marcus suggested that the movie giant should also consider sharing usage numbers to gauge the popularity of new payment options.

Marcus believes such a move could stimulate more demand by encouraging "competitive buying".

AMC began accepting bitcoin, ethereum, and several other cryptocurrencies in November after initially announcing the plan in August.

The movie theater chain is known for its unconventional decisions.

Last month, the company stunned the investment community by buying a stake in a gold mining company in Nevada.
