Crystal Palace may have pushed closer to the all-important 40-point cushion but you will struggle to find fans who are overly enthused by their current form in front of goal.
With three wins in their last five Premier League matches coming into this weekend’s match with Leeds United, fears of possible relegation were totally eased.
Leeds themselves are being sucked into a relegation battle, such is the form of West Ham and Palace fans were hopeful that a win could propel them to potentially looking at a strong finish to the season.
They were handed all the tools to do so too, with Leeds’ left back Gabriel Gudmundsson sent off in first-half stoppage time after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had missed a penalty.
But it was a second half to forget, with Palace unable to score or even really look like scoring, with the exception of Jefferson Lerma’s headed goal being ruled out for offside.
It has brought about some unwanted records for the Eagles, who move to 39 points, 10 clear of the relegation zone.
Failure to score against Leeds means the Eagles did not adjust their seven open play goals at home this season.
That is the lowest total in the entire Premier League and against the 10 men of Leeds, they broke a new record too.
Palace became the first team in Premier League history to fail to register a single shot on target against an opponent who had a player sent off in the first half.
It was also only the second time under Oliver Glasner that the Eagles failed to score in successive games at Selhurst Park, after also doing so in the Conference League against AEK Larnaca on Thursday.
The last time Glasner’s men failed to hit the back of the net over two home games was against Manchester United and Liverpool all the way back in October 2024.
Despite the obvious concerns around Palace’s significant lack of attacking prowess this season, Glasner is adamant that his side are making progress.
"We could have done better, but we know that sometimes it can be more difficult [playing 10 men],” he told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“In a few other games we have been in a similar situation, we were getting nervous and taking the wrong decisions. We weren't clinical enough in the final third.
"In the end, a point and another clean sheet. It is progress.
“We have to stay calm and stay in our structure because I feel we are losing our structure then.”
