SLC denies exploiting loopholes to save Hasaranga for T20 World Cup

Mar 21, 2024 11:39 AM

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has denied exploiting technical loopholes to save star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga from missing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 matches later this year.

Hasaranga on Tuesday, emerged from Test retirement after the third ODI against Bangladesh and was in this way named in the Sri Lanka crew for the Test series against a similar resistance.

Be that as it may, he was slapped by the Global Cricket Chamber (ICC) with a two-match boycott for breaking ICC's Implicit set of principles during the third ODI, administering him out of the Test series, booked to initiate on Walk 22.

He got a 50 percent fine and gathered three fault focuses for his offense, which brought his all out negative mark focuses to eight of every two years.

The all-rounder was at that point on five bad mark focuses in the wake of getting three fault focuses in the third T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla last month.

Presently, with the expansion of the most recent negative mark focuses, he has penetrated the edge of eight fault focuses, which, as per article 7.6 of the Code, have been changed over into four suspension focuses.

A ban from two Tests, four ODIs, or T20Is, whichever comes first, is the equivalent of the four suspension points.

After coming out of retirement, Hasaranga was included in the Sri Lankan team for the Tests. Thus, he was restricted from two Test coordinates yet would have in any case missed four T20Is in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

This cocked eyebrows among the cricket circles about Hasaranga returning his retirement to try not to miss games in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

SLC explained that the all-rounder wanted to get back to Test cricket before the third ODI against Bangladesh through an email on 16 Walk, attributable to his superior wellness.

"It was around fourteen days prior that he let us know he was available to playing Tests once more," Ajantha Mendis, an individual from Sri Lanka's determination board of trustees told ESPNcricinfo.

In my personal opinion circumstances surrounding Wanindu Hasaranga's return to Test cricket appear dubious, in my opinion. The timing of Hasaranga's decision to come out of retirement raises suspicions, especially in light of the ICC ban implications for missing T20 World Cup matches. Sri Lanka Cricket denies exploiting loopholes."We know how it looks, but this decision was made long before the final ODI," .
