Email Account Limitations, Banned Content, and Fraudulent Activity on BBS
Feb 21, 2022 12:02 PM
Hello METABBS!
We have a new update to share with you regarding new account creation, content not allowed across the BBS.market domain, and a recent transparency report for users found to be engaging fraudulently with the network.
Email Account Limitations
Starting tomorrow new users who register with only an email address (NOT linking to a current social media account) will have limited functionality to the BBS Network. To combat and prevent fraudulent activity, new email only accounts will not receive many bonuses or be considered as a valid impression on posts.
This change will only affect NEW accounts created with only an email registration. Previous accounts created under an email will NOT be affected by this change.
New Email-only account limitations
Email only registrants will NOT:
- Be eligible for the signup bonus for joining a new board
- Be eligible for referral bonuses (both given and received)
- Be eligible for daily visit bonuses
- Be eligible to generate impressions on posts (their impressions won’t be counted)
- Be included when counting reactions for thumbs-up bonuses
- Be eligible for 1st day purchase bonus
Email only registrants WILL:
- Receive impression income from owned and/or published posts
- Receive reaction bonuses from reaching 5x thumbs-ups on posts/comments.
This change WILL NOT affect any accounts that are created by linking current social media platforms (Google/Twitter/Facebook linked accounts).
This change will not affect accounts previously created through emails. If you’ve already created your account through email, you will still have full functionality.
With this we are severely limiting the ability for malicious actors to attempt to game the BBS Network as a whole in order to ensure a fair and stable BBS economy.
Banned Content across the BBS Network
With this update, we have some content restrictions put into place across all boards hosted on BBS.Market.
Due to legal requirements, BBS.market will not allow content including, but not limited to, pornographic and obscene content.
A full list of banned content can be found in Section 9 of the BBS Terms of Use.
Other operators can choose to host any type of content for their users.
Users can report content violations directly to the BBS Community Admin for removal.
BBS Network Fraudulent Activity
The BBS team has been hard at work to manage and mitigate fraudulent activity on BBS. From our findings, we will be freezing offenders’ BBS accounts (a power given to the operator of the BBS) in order to ensure that tokens gained fraudulently or by manipulating the BBS platform will not be eligible to withdraw.
Once this is processed, we will be releasing a Transparency Report with the exact number of users blocked along with the amount of BBS tokens that were frozen in the accounts.
As always, questions and comments are welcome!
