Engagement Mining - Transition 7

Welcome back BBSers!! It’s time for another update on the Engagement Mining program as we move into Transition 7. We continue to adapt and grow, and we have some noteworthy announcements to share with you all. New Approvals We are thrilled to announce that after a thorough review, two new boards are joining the Engagement Mining program: AITAH Am I The Asshole? Post your AITA stories ANONYMOUSLY / WITH ANY NICKNAME (New easy one-click signup) and let the community decide whether you're TA (The Asshole) or NTA (Not The Asshole), see their comments containing their experiences and thoughts on the matter. PROCHOC The Pro-Choice & Support board is OPEN to EVERYONE to post on (you can post anonymously or with any nickname, easy one-click signup) and is a direct extension of the FB & IG Women's Rights News platform advocating for global women's rights, full bodily autonomy and the right for ALL women regardless of age, religion or circumstance to be the sole decision maker over her own body and life choices. Welcome to the Engagement Mining family! We are eagerly looking forward to the unique and engaging conversations these boards will bring to the network. Probationary Status Updates In this transition, we are placing two previously approved boards into Probationary status for failing to meet quantitative requirements: - INDFAM - SPORTX We want to be clear: Probationary status is NOT a removal from the program. It’s a signal that these boards have momentarily dipped below the quantitative criteria thresholds. We understand that network activity has been lower lately, and we are NOT holding this against INDFAM or SPORTX. Quality over quantity is our mantra, and as long as these boards maintain their high-quality engagement and discussion, they will remain valued members of our program. We are here to support, not to penalize. Update on THEORY: We would also like to provide an update on the THEORY board, which was placed under probationary status during Transition 6. While THEORY has continued to remain below the quantitative requirements, we are heartened by what we are seeing on this board. The content and discussions taking place on THEORY continue to be high quality, original, and engaging. The moderation staff is actively contributing and managing the board commendably. We appreciate their continued commitment and dedication, and we stand by our boards as we navigate this period of fluctuation. Exciting Proposal? The AI Engagement Mining Manager We’re brainstorming a groundbreaking concept: an AI Engagement Mining Manager. In our quest to continually enhance the Engagement Mining Program, we’ve consistently faced a key challenge: how to measure the quality of content in an objective manner that is free of bias. Human evaluations, while valuable, can sometimes be influenced by subjective perspectives even with effort towards remaining impartial, and this is where our AI proposal comes into play. This AI system would be designed to assess the quality of content on our boards, analyzing posts and discussions within a community and even potentially pairing this with board metrics to determine whether a board meets the criteria for approval into the Engagement Mining program. The focus is sharply on qualitative assessment, ensuring that content is not just abundant, but meaningful and valuable. To uphold our commitment to transparency, the AI’s assessment process would be based on publicly available criteria, and we could share insight into how its decisions are made. Initially, this AI system would operate in the background, serving as an impartial and fair judge of quality and meaningful engagement. At this stage, this is just an idea, and we are eager to explore its potential. We would love to hear the community's thoughts on this concept. Should we pursue this idea further? What concerns or suggestions do you have? Please, share your feedback – your voice is pivotal as we consider this innovative step! On the Horizon  We have some very promising developments brewing here at BBS that we believe will contribute significantly to the growth and success of the network. We can't share too much yet - but hold tight, because great things are in motion! The BBS team remains as dedicated as ever to building an amazing platform for all. We appreciate each and every one of you for being on this journey with us. Here’s to an ever-brightening future for the BBS Network!

Version 4.2.5 - Super Comment Replies, Expanded Mod Tools, & more!

Greetings, BBSers! We're thrilled to present Version 4.2.5 of the BBS Network web application. This update focuses on providing more tools for community interaction, moderator control, and preventing spam & harassment. Super Comment Replies It’s here! Super Comment replies are a new feature that allows you to show appreciation for insightful, informative, or entertaining comments in a tangible way. If you've ever read a comment that resonated with you, made you laugh, or taught you something new, Super Comment replies provide a way to reward the author by tipping them directly. Just like super comments for posts, you'll be able to apply super comment replies through its button shown in the comment reply box. Whether you're rewarding exceptional insights or just spreading a bit of joy, we can’t wait to see which comments you tip! Moderator Permissions Table Owners and Admins, this one's for you! The Moderator Panel now has a unified 'Moderator Permissions' table. It provides a centralized space for setting permissions for admins and moderators of the board. This streamlined table gives you a quick look at which moderators have which permissions, in an easily editable table, making the management of roles and responsibilities more transparent and efficient. Signup Blacklisting Community safety is paramount, and to enhance it, we're introducing the ability for operators to blacklist users from signing up again. This can be especially helpful in case of harassment or spam. If any user suspects a violation of the operator's terms of service, they should report it directly to the operator or the Community Manager, 0xReclamation@bbs. This ensures that community standards are maintained and everyone enjoys a respectful environment. The operator can then assess the situation and add users to the blacklist if necessary Design & Bug Fixes We never stop refining and tuning, and this update is no different. Some notable fixes include: - Fixed a bug causing some posts to crash the page. - Tip amount now shown in the moderator activity page for super comments from moderators. - Fixed a bug where audio could continue playing on the next page in certain situations. - & more! These improvements were targeted at enhancing the user experience and ensuring the stability of the platform. We are continually striving to enhance the BBS Network for all users, and your feedback plays a critical role in that process. Let us know your thoughts and experiences with this update in the comments below or in a new post. If you encounter any bugs or need further support, please create a new post on the METABBS board and use the 'Bug' flair on the post. We are here to help! Thank you for being a part of the BBS Network. Your engagement and enthusiasm drive us to keep innovating and enhancing the platform. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and features! Happy BBSing!

Version 4.2.4 - Expanded Impressions, Engagement Mining Reward Update, & more!

Greetings, BBSers! Version 4.2.4 of the BBS Network web application has been released. This update implements a host of changes and improvements: - Impressions Expansion - Engagement Mining Reward Formula Update - Deposit to Community Pool - Minor Design/UI Fixes Impressions Expansion We're pleased to announce that the impressions mechanics have been updated to include non-registered user activity. This, with the new formula, allows boards and partnered publishers to be rewarded for engaging audiences outside of BBS members, providing a massively broadened audience for board owners and content publishers. Engagement Mining Reward Formula Update Version 4.2.4 introduces a major update to the engagement mining reward formula, incorporating activity from unregistered users. The previous formula was:Score = DAM(d) + GF(d) and now we've refined it to: Score = DAM(d) + GF(d) + (DAU-DAM)(d)/10 Where: DAM = 28d Avg Daily Active Members  GF = Growth Factor [GF = AvgDAU(1d) - AvgDAU(28d ago)] DAU = 28d Avg Daily Active Users The last addition to the formula provides value to the difference between your unregistered and registered user activity, providing a scaled value for unregistered members. This update to the formula represents a significant step towards fully capturing the scope of community engagement on the BBS Network. It means that board owners and their partners will now experience a more accurate reflection of the engagement their content generates, and potentially enjoy higher rewards as a result. We believe that this change will inspire even more vibrant interaction and content creation across the BBS Network, and is a strong step in improving mechanical incentivization. Deposit to Community Pool Also included with this version is the ability for board owners to deposit cashable amounts into their board’s community pool, allowing board owners better control over the pool. This can be found in the “Deposit” section of the profile. Minor Design/UI Fixes Additionally some minor design and UI fixes have been included, such as - Removing overlap of texts in specific aspect ratios - Tipping section removed from notification options - Removing possible text overlap in the case of long usernames - & more! We always value your feedback and encourage you to share your experiences or thoughts about this update in the comments below or in a new post. If you encounter any bugs, please report them by creating a new post on the METABBS board and using the 'Bug' flair on the post. Your contribution helps us improve the BBS Network for everyone!

Version 4.2.3 - Post Approval & Pending Content

Hello, BBS Network members! We're excited to roll out Version 4.2.3 of the BBS Network web application. This update introduces a requested new feature with some other changes: - Post Approval Mode - Unified View for Pending Content - Moderator Activity Update - Updated Board Headers - Minor Bug Fixes Post Approval Mode This new feature allows boards to enter an approval mode, in which all posts submitted need to be approved by a moderator or owner before being published on the board. This feature is intended to provide more options for owners in their moderation, including dealing with surging activity or enforcing content standards. To enable Approval Mode, navigate to the "Edit Board" section in the board dropdown menu. Remember, this feature is only available to owners or those with edit board permissions. Unified View for Pending Content In our mission to streamline and simplify moderation tools, we've brought together separate sections for pending posts, pending comments, and hidden posts into a single "View Pending Content" section. Each category still has its own section for easy navigation between pending comments, posts, and hidden posts. Moderator Activity Update The Moderators' activity logs have been relocated from the board's "Activity" panel to the separate Moderator Panel found within the board's dropdown menu. In future updates, the Moderator Panel will be expanded to include more organizational and management options for board owners and their administrators. A small addition to your board's header, but an important one. We've included the total number of posts and members for each board right below the board's header. This will give your viewers a quick snapshot of your board's activity without diving into the "About" section. We value your feedback and encourage you to share your experiences and any suggestions you might have about this update in the comments below or a new post. Your input helps us improve BBS Network for everyone! If you come across any bugs, please report them by creating a new post on the METABBS board and use the 'Bug' flair on the post. Well constructed bug reports for undiscovered issues are a prime candidate for Super Comments on METABBS!

Version 4.2.2 - Video Thread Fullscreen Mode for Web App

Hello, BBS Network members! We're excited to roll out Version 4.2.2 of the BBS Network web application. This version introduces a popular feature from our mobile app to the web app: Fullscreen Mode for navigating video threads and responses. Video Thread Fullscreen Mode Experience your favorite video threads and responses in a whole new way with Fullscreen Mode. Previously available only on our mobile app, we've now brought this immersive feature to the web app. To enter Fullscreen Mode on the web app, click the icon in the upper left corner of a video thread. It's the same familiar icon found in the mobile app. On mobile devices, use the familiar swipe gestures to navigate Fullscreen Mode. Swipe left, right, up, or down to engage with the video thread and responses. We really want to hear from you! Please, share your experiences and any suggestions you might have about this adaptation of the Fullscreen in the comments below or a new post. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve. Looking Ahead We’re constantly working on enhancing the BBS Network experience. One of our top priorities is the extension of our Super Comments feature. In the future, this will allow users to tip not just post publishers but also fellow commenters to directly reward quality engagement. We're committed to perfecting this feature, and while it may take some time in development, we're confident it will greatly enrich interactions on the platform. In the meantime, we're focused on enhancing several areas of the BBS Network, including community management, moderator tools, and overall user experience. Although we won’t reveal all the details just yet, we can tell you that more flexible controls and added functionalities are in the works, and we can't wait to share them with you! As always, we're committed to addressing issues and enhancing performance. If you come across any bugs, please report them by creating a new post on the METABBS board and use the 'Bug' flair on the post. Your vigilance helps us make BBS Network better for everyone! Stay tuned for more updates!

Engagement Mining - Distribution Adjustment Trial

Welcome back BBSers! Recently, we've had several discussions around disabling the revenue mechanics tied to Partnership. We were very happy to see all the participation in these discussions, and grateful for the feedback that was given around the topic. After examining the feedback received, we've decided not to remove partnership revenue at this time. Instead, we will be reducing the Engagement Mining program's Maximum CPM to a realistic market average of $5. As with the previous reduction of maximum CPM this means that, while the total rewards boards receive will remain the same, a greater portion of the board rewards will be distributed into the board's Community Pool to be used for Super Comments or manual distribution.  Alongside this change, we are also lowering the minimum tip amount with a Super Comment to $0.50 to give owners and moderators more options to use the funds from the Community Pool. The Maximum CPM will be reduced with the next Reward distribution, and the minimum tip amount has been changed to $0.50 with this announcement. In a future update, we will also be adding the ability for unregistered users to generate impressions for posts published on BBS. While this is not a small addition, and will need some time in development and testing, including impressions from unregistered users will better incentivize partners to promote published posts externally and better reward 'viral' content. We're looking forward to seeing boards continue to develop their own rewards model for their members and discover the best ways to utilize Engagement Mining rewards to fuel board growth!

Version 4.2.1 - One Tap and Temp Bans

Version 4.2.1 has been released! This version brings us some new additions and multiple bug fixes: - One Tap sign-in - Temporary Bans - Bug Fixes One Tap sign-in  One Tap sign is now functional for Android devices on BBS Network! One Tap allows users to login and register with BBS Network using a single tap with your Google account. This feature is intended to improve registered user conversion and will make sign ups and logins as simple as can be. The One Tap sign-in prompt will appear on Android devices when on the BBS web app. Temporary Bans Board owners and moderators have a new moderation tool under their belt with the addition of Temporary Bans. When selecting the Ban option as a moderator, a new prompt will appear to specify the desired length of the ban. Permanent bans are still available, with new options for 1 day, 3 day, and 1 week temporary bans as well.  We hope this addition is helpful for moderators and gives them more options to handle situations that arise. Bug Fixes Several bug fixes were also included in Version 4.2.1. Some notable bug fixes include: - Revenue notifications and activity logs no longer display the amount in RP, and will now display the correct symbol - The Members list for a board will no longer display moderators that have since had their moderator permissions removed - Several UI fixes have been deployed to the Staking page, improving readability and page visibility. - and more! Engagement Mining - Transition 6 & Criteria Adjustments

Welcome to Transition 6 of the Engagement Mining program! With the recent release of Version 4.2.0 and the addition of Super Comments, we're excited to bring some adjustments to the Engagement Mining approval criteria and the next transition of the Engagement Mining Program. Requirements - 28d avg DAM of 35+ OR 28d avg DAU of 300+ - 28d avg Unique Registered Viewers of 20+ - Board activity must be organic and the board must mitigate fraudulent activity  - Board consistently generates unique/engaging content We've introduced an optional criterion that allows boards to qualify for the program with a 28-day average of 300 Daily Active Users (DAU). This addition is designed to accommodate more boards and give a greater inclusion to unregistered activity. For a comprehensive understanding of the criteria and application process, please refer to our Engagement Mining Criteria & Application post. Removed Boards CINMAX Due to unmitigated fraudulent activity and recent discoveries after security upgrades on BBS, CINMAX is being removed from the Engagement Mining program and being hidden at the operator level. Our recent upgrades to improve analytics and detect fraudulent activity led us to discover that the owner and key contributors from CINMAX were operating while having previously frozen accounts and attempting to bypass detection from BBS. All accounts associated with this violation of our Terms of Use, in their attempts to bypass platform restrictions, have been frozen. We remain committed to maintaining an ethical and transparent environment on the BBS Network. Pending Applicants CELEBIX, IMDAD, POPBUZZ, STARMAX Currently all four applicants meet the qualitative metrics outlined in the requirements. However, the pending applicants currently do not meet qualitative requirements for Engagement Mining approval. In each case, the quality of publications and discussions in the communities failed to reach organically engaging levels, with much of the content being simple pastes of information and shallow discussions around the topic. Pending boards also are currently not providing unique content to bring to the network, with many publications being shared or copied from other boards across the network. Fake accounts were also found, some being joined in multiple of the applicant communities. Above else, the BBS Network's Engagement Mining program needs to fund unique and engaging communities that will bring real value to the network. Simply reaching a number of users interacting with the board is not sufficient for approval, as healthy growth relies on much more. We encourage these boards to enhance their performance and consider reapplying in the future. Previous applications have been hidden, new applications must follow the guidelines in the Criteria & Application post here: Probationary Status With Transition 6, we are also introducing a Probationary status for approved board who begin to fail quantitative metrics.  In the event of a board beginning to fail quantitative, they will be placed into a Probationary status until the next Transition. If the board is unable to reach the requirements during this time, the board's approval status will be reconsidered with the following transition taking into account board's impact and network contribution. THEORY THEORY is being placed under probationary status with Transition 6 as they are failing to meet the following requirement: "28d avg Unique Registered Viewers of 20+" We value the contributions of all boards, both approved and those working towards approval, in their efforts to build a thriving community within the BBS Network. We value the contributions of all boards, both approved and those working towards approval, in their efforts to build a thriving community within the BBS Network. We have a lot to come in the coming months, and we can't wait to see how the network grows. Thank you for your continued support to the BBS Network!

Version 4.2.0 - Super Comments, Community Pools, & Rewards Distribution

Welcome back BBSers! We’re excited to announce that version 4.2.0 of the BBS Network web application has been released! This version introduces several landmark features to BBS, including: - Super Comments & Cash Tipping - Community Pools - Rewards Distribution adjustments Super Comments & Cash Tipping Long awaited for the BBS application, members can now use Super Comments to tip post publishers in USD values directly from their BBS token balance or, with admin permission, a board’s community pool. Super Comment tips are received directly into an account’s BBS token balance, shown in USD value.  Make your comment stand out and appear at the top of the list with a Super Comment! Super Comments can be applied to a post by clicking the new Super Comment button in the comment input bar which will bring up the Super Comment menu. Members who are not moderators on a board with permission to tip from the community pool will be prompted to tip directly from their BBS token balance. Members can keep track of how much they’ve received from Super Comments in their Profile page. Super comment revenue from all boards is shown on the profile. Community Pools Previously, any rewards from the Engagement Mining program that were distributed after the maximum $70 CPM had been reached were left unused. With 4.2.0 any rewards distributed to an approved board over the maximum CPM will now be routed into the board’s Community Pool. In addition, impression revenue from posts published by non-partners will now distribute into the Community Pool instead of the Board Owner’s account. The Community Pool can be used by approved moderators and the board owner in order to apply Super Comments on posts and tip publishers. Permission to access the community pool for tipping can be granted through “Approve Partner & Tip from Community Pool” in the Admin Settings for each moderator. Owners and moderators with permission will be prompted to tip directly from the Community Pool when creating a Super Comment. Board owners can also transfer funds from the Community Pool into their Cashable Balance through the ‘Deposit’ menu found in the account profile.  Engagement Mining Rewards Distribution In order to encourage the usage of Super Comments and allow for a higher distribution of funds into the Community Pool, the maximum CPM for a board is being lowered from $70 to $25. This will not alter the total amount of rewards a board receives, but will instead in most cases divert a portion of board rewards into the Community Pool which can be used for manually rewarding publishers. This change will allow board owners and their teams to use Super Comments to create their own incentive models for their board, rewarding the posts and publishers publicly for the content that pushes the board forward.  Super Comments and Community Pools allow the Engagement Mining rewards to be balanced around both manual and automated reward distribution, giving owners more influence over how BBS monetization fuels their board’s growth. We encourage owners and their teams to use Super Comments and Community Pools to fuel their board’s growth, and to build their own reward model that best suits their community!

Engagement Mining - Transition 5

Welcome to Transition 5 of the Engagement Mining program! After the Engagement Mining reward distribution changes implemented in Version 4.1, and last month’s criteria changes to the Engagement Mining program, we are once again actively curating the Engagement Mining approvals. Following the updated Engagement Mining criteria, there is one board approved for Engagement Mining, and four boards removed from the program.. Requirements - 28d avg DAU of 35 or higher - 28d avg Unique Registered Viewers of 20 or higher - Board activity must be organic and the board must mitigate fraudulent activity - Board consistently generates unique/engaging content Full information regarding the criteria, and the application process, can be found here in the Engagement Mining Criteria & Application post: Newly Approved Boards One pending board has met all Engagement Mining criteria for approval and will join the program: CINMAX Songs / Naat&Qawali / Singer Reviews “CINMAX is a community that is focused on Music and News about Singers. On our board, we discuss different types of Music, Musical Instrument and anything related to the music world members can share in CINMAX. The goal of CINMAX is to make a community that unites all music lovers from across the world where we can discuss the favourite Singer news, updates about songs، albums, and where members can showcase their talent and a lot more. We are aiming to build a genuine community where all the music lovers will enjoy the community.” - Raza512@bbs Removed Boards Four boards are being removed in this transition for not meeting one or more of the Engagement Mining Criteria for approval. UUNET UUNET has been removed from the program as they do not meet either requirement of having an average of 35 Daily Active Users or an average of 20 Unique Registered Viewers. BANTER, CHARTS, and VILLA These boards have also been removed as they do not meet the requirement of having a daily average of 20 Unique Registered Viewers. We appreciate the contribution these boards have made to BBS Network thus far, and encourage these boards to continue working towards meeting the criteria requirements and to reapply for approval in the future. Engagement Mining Reward Metrics We are still analyzing the Engagement Mining reward distribution and criteria, and may have further optimizations to come. In particular, we have been looking at implementing a fraud-resistant method to account for unregistered user activity along with registered member activity for boards.  Currently, all rewards metrics are based on member activity, but do not include any weight towards unregistered board traffic. We believe that this is an essential metric to include, as it is the most commonly used metric for advertising services across the web, but need further data and feedback on the weight the metric should be given in the formula and the potential network impact it would carry. Let us know your thoughts! Thank you to all who have applied and to those who continue to build strong communities on BBS Network. We look forward to the next transition in June!

Engagement Mining 2023 Criteria & Application

With the release of Version 4.1, and its changes to the Engagement Mining program’s formula for rewards, we have been collecting data and examining the impact of the update on board activity and the rewards to determine new criteria for approval into the Engagement Mining program. Engagement Mining Criteria In order to qualify for approval into the Engagement Mining program, boards must consistently meet the following criteria: - 28d avg DAM of 35+ OR 28d avg DAU of 300+ - 28d avg Unique Registered Viewers of 20 or higher - Board activity must be organic and the board must mitigate fraudulent activity - Board consistently generates unique/engaging content Quantitative Criteria To be considered for approval, boards must reach an average of 35 Daily Active Members or 300 Daily Active Users. Boards must also reach an average of 20 Unique Viewers or more along with the active user or member criteria. These metrics ensure that the board has established a core community and that a significant number of users are interacting with board content. The figures set here may be adjusted over time to scale with network activity. The 28d avg of Unique Registered Viewers for boards, as of 03/10/23 is shown in the image below, with updates posted regularly under the Announcements flair: Organic Activity & Fraud Mitigation Boards must also ensure that board activity is organic and that any fraud or gaming attempts are mitigated to the best of their ability.  Examples of inorganic activity include, but are not limited to, spam posting, members using multiple accounts, reputation gaming, inflated engagement, group collusion, and more.Any board found to be encouraging or complicit with any fraudulent activity will be disqualified from the Engagement Mining program, and the board may also be blocked by the operator. Approved boards will also be given contact with the BBS Network Fraud Investigation team for assistance with any attempted fraudulent activity. Unique/Engaging Content In addition to the above criteria, boards must also consistently generate unique or engaging content. Boards filled with predominantly copied, generic, or non-engaging repetitive content will not qualify for the Engagement Mining program, even if other criteria is met. To facilitate and encourage BBS Network growth, Engagement Mining approval is held for boards that are bringing unique and engaging content to the network, which in turn will fuel healthy growth and interest in BBS Network.  Engagement Mining Application In order to apply for Engagement Mining, please first check if the board has met the listed quantitative criteria. After reaching the minimum number of Daily Active Members and average Unique Viewers, boards may apply for Engagement Mining by creating a new post in METABBS with the “EM Application” flair with the following information: What is the board’s name and symbol? [Please provide a link to the board] What is the board’s description? What are the board’s rules or guidelines for its members? How will the Engagement Mining funding be used for the board, and in what way will the board contribute to the network?
