With the release of Version 4.1, and its changes to the Engagement Mining program’s formula for rewards, we have been collecting data and examining the impact of the update on board activity and the rewards to determine new criteria for approval into the Engagement Mining program.
In order to qualify for approval into the Engagement Mining program, boards must consistently meet the following criteria:
To be considered for approval, boards must reach an average of 35 Daily Active Members or 300 Daily Active Users. Boards must also reach an average of 20 Unique Viewers or more along with the active user or member criteria.
These metrics ensure that the board has established a core community and that a significant number of users are interacting with board content. The figures set here may be adjusted over time to scale with network activity.
The 28d avg of Unique Registered Viewers for boards, as of 03/10/23 is shown in the image below, with updates posted regularly under the Announcements flair:

Boards must also ensure that board activity is organic and that any fraud or gaming attempts are mitigated to the best of their ability.
Examples of inorganic activity include, but are not limited to, spam posting, members using multiple accounts, reputation gaming, inflated engagement, group collusion, and more.Any board found to be encouraging or complicit with any fraudulent activity will be disqualified from the Engagement Mining program, and the board may also be blocked by the operator.
Approved boards will also be given contact with the BBS Network Fraud Investigation team for assistance with any attempted fraudulent activity.
In addition to the above criteria, boards must also consistently generate unique or engaging content. Boards filled with predominantly copied, generic, or non-engaging repetitive content will not qualify for the Engagement Mining program, even if other criteria is met. To facilitate and encourage BBS Network growth, Engagement Mining approval is held for boards that are bringing unique and engaging content to the network, which in turn will fuel healthy growth and interest in BBS Network.
In order to apply for Engagement Mining, please first check if the board has met the listed quantitative criteria. After reaching the minimum number of Daily Active Members and average Unique Viewers, boards may apply for Engagement Mining by creating a new post in METABBS with the “EM Application” flair with the following information:
What is the board’s name and symbol? [Please provide a link to the board]
What is the board’s description?
What are the board’s rules or guidelines for its members?
How will the Engagement Mining funding be used for the board, and in what way will the board contribute to the network?
