I just watched the 3rd episode of the newest Dr Who, and i'm so glad I persevered with it, because the first 2 episodes were quite disappointing, especially the first.. but the third..šŸ™Œ it hit the spot. It's one of the better episodes i've seen in a long time!

I only started watching Dr Who back when Matt Smith became Dr, but didn't see much of the last season and didn't feel like I was missing much from what I did see 😬

Anyway, the 3rd episode had a much stronger storyline and did much more to build on and develop the relationship between the Dr and his new partner Ruby Sunday. Almost all of the episode centered on the Dr standing on a land mine waiting on it's explosion, in a war torn future planet.

The episode covered really relevant themes like the use of AI and algorithms in warfare and modern warfare in general, which is of course very much my interest. The Anglicans (lol!) it turned out were waging a war against no one, on an uninhabited planet, symbolising the pointlesness of war, except for it's purposes of making money and benefitting a few select people. AI and algorithms would ensure just enough were dying to keep the war going, and keep the arms companies making money.

Although the BBC is very flawed and very woke, I thought this was quite a brave theme to tackle in Dr Who and a subtle way of making some points about using your critical thinking about conflicts.

Religion also featured and the concept that faith "keeps you thinking for yourself", was really well done in a way that opened the door for various conversations applying to those of many faiths. I also thought it oddly touching and spiritual rather than solely religious, when a young girl's father was killed and she remarked, "he's not gone, he's just dead" šŸ–¤

Let me know if any of you are fans or have seen and enjoyed this episode.
