Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) | Nattosheru ReviewCaptain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) | Nattosheru Review

Hello superhero lovers. Today I want to talk to you about another sequel of one of the most famous characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America. This second part, which I admit is much better than the first one, was produced, evidently, by Marvel Studios (as it did with the previous movies I've been talking about in the last three weeks) and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, this movie features Chris Evans as the main character, among other actors such as Scarlett Johanson, Sebastian Stan and Samuel L. Jackson. A tape of pure action, fights, combats, drama, science fiction and superheroes, of course.

Plot

The movie starts a couple of years after the events of "The Avengers", with Steve Rogers working for S.H.I.E.L.D. which is led by Nick Fury. On a special mission, the captain is accompanied by agent Natasha Romanoff and members of the S.T.R.I.K.E. team to recover one of their ships, as well as save the hostages, who are in danger from a group of French pirates led by George Baltroc. While Rogers takes down the pirates and saves the hostages, Black Widow is tasked with an extra mission that has only been assigned to her, which is to retrieve the ship's data.

Because Rogers has not been informed of this mission, he argues with Nick Fury, who subsequently shows him the project that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been working on for some time. This project involves the construction of three Helicarriers that are linked via satellite and will be programmed to take out any threat within the country. Steve does not agree with replacing america's security with fear, which causes Nick to think about the decisions being made by the organization's top brass due to some suspicion that exists in this project. However, his distrust will cost him dearly as he will be pursued by an assassin disguised with a robotic arm who seeks to kill him.

Trailer & Review

Below, I will leave you the trailer of the movie:

While I mentioned in the first movie that Captain America is not one of my favorite heroes of this franchise, I must admit that this sequel is one of the best Marvel Studios has made of a superhero, without exaggeration. And it has such incredible direction, acting, special effects and drama that it is impossible not to detach from the screen once you start watching it. The mix of action and suspense that they give to this film is something that fascinates me a lot, since it not only shows us a wrong idea of what "security" means at a national level, but also plays with the role and the history of the main character, making us think about who is the real enemy behind everything that happened.

While it is true that in this film we see the appearance of several other heroes (such as Black Widow and Falcon), it can be seen that the protagonist and the story continues to revolve mainly around Steve Rogers, a Captain America somewhat distrustful of those who previously called partners who, to top it off, work together under an organization that takes a direction that reminds him of a dark and turbulent past that still to this day continues to haunt him. All this, added to the appearance of a character that will make him remember his times in World War II along with a friend and companion that until that moment he thought he was dead (spoiler alert).

The series of events and trials faced by our protagonist will help him mentally prepare for what is to come. New friends, old acquaintances, new battles, old enemies, all this and more is what we see in this movie. Chris Evans' performance as Steve Rogers is excellent, I must admit, as he shows us a Captain America trying to protect the present while dealing with his terrible past. On the other hand, Scarlett Johanson shows us a side of Black Widow that we haven't seen in previous cameos, which is interesting. And finally, Sebastian Stan's performance and interpretation as "The Winter Soldier" is excellent because, if we compare him with his performance as Bucky Barnes in the first part, in this sequel we clearly notice an incredible character development, as well as a very dangerous enemy.

Now, another detail that I would like to talk about this movie, without a doubt, is the incredible choreography that it has in the battles, whoever they are, it is fantastic how realistic they can seem, with sound effects that give it that special touch. The special effects are very well done, so much so that this film was nominated at the time for an Oscar Award for "Best Special Effects". The soundtrack, on the other hand, is also very well done, giving that dark and dramatic touch to the whole movie, especially in moments that are clearly key to the story. Undoubtedly, this sequel is one of the few that has managed to far surpass its predecessor, not only delivering an audiovisual spectacle, but also dealing with themes such as the struggle of good and evil, safety versus fear and the consequences of a dark past.

Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating as far as the action/drama/superhero genre is concerned.

Tell me, have you seen this movie, what did you think of it? You can leave me your answer in the comments.

All the best.
