Matt Nagy is on the move again, but isn't in a head coaching role.
Nagy's last HC gig was with the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. The Bears qualified for the postseason twice during his tenure.
Things started really great for Nagy in Chicago in 2018, as he took the team to the playoffs in his first season.
The Bears went 12-4 and won the NFC North. However, the postseason was short-lived for Chicago, as it was the infamous double doink loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card.
The high of that first season with Nagy didn't last very long.
Chicago went 8-8 the next two seasons, before finishing 6-11 in 2021. Nagy was later fired after the 2021 season.
He returned to the Kansas City Chiefs as an assistant in 2022. Nagy had a previous stint there in 2017 as offensive coordinator.
After spending one season as a Senior Assistant and QB Coach, Nagy was named the OC in 2023. He held that role until after the 2025 season, leaving to pursue head coaching opportunities.
Kansas City didn't waste anytime finding Nagy's replacement, hiring former Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy.
He found himself among the candidates for the Tennessee Titans HC job. Nagy was already familiar with General Manager Mike Borgonzi, who had been with the Chiefs' organization from 2009-2024.
However, the Titans hired former San Francisco 49ers assistant Robert Saleh instead. After not being hired by the Titans, it was clear that Nagy's best chance at a new opportunity was as an assistant.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Nagy will be joining the New York Giants as OC. He'll be working under former Baltimore Ravens HC John Harbaugh. Harbaugh was fired after the Ravens missed the postseason in 2025.
Nagy's offense with the Chiefs ranked 20th in total yards and 21st in points per game. He'll now get the chance to work with young quarterback Jaxson Dart and the promising Giants' offense.
The Giants parted ways with HC Brian Daboll after going 2-8 in 10 games. Daboll was fired after Week 10.
To Nagy's credit, the HC positions filled up rather quickly around the NFL. Once Saleh's deal with Tennessee was made official, the only teams with openings left were the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders.
That was on Jan. 27.
By Feb. 1, all those teams had found their next HC.
While it wasn't what Nagy was hoping for, it'll be interesting to see how he does in some new surroundings.
