Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker has quite the task ahead of him to rebuild one of the NFL's worst defenses this offseason.
With a handful of players to build around, such as Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, DeMarvion Overshown, and Osa Odighizuwa, the cupboard isn't exactly bare.
The Cowboys are set to have two first-round draft picks, coupled with the ability to free up over $100 million in cap space with several restructures and cuts, Parker could have quite the shopping list.
We have spoken of how Jerry Jones needs to go get himself a Ferrari in free agency, maybe someone like Maxx Crosby. But he would cost a lot of money, not to mention one, maybe two first-round picks.
Dallas isn't doing that, is it?
So what about free agency?
We have already put forward the idea of the Cowboys trying to poach Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean, who is an unrestricted free agent.
Parker has been on staff in Philadelphia and Denver, and that is where we offer up another free agent acquisition to reunite Christian with.
Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton.
Playing 16 games in 2025, the 32-year-old was a tackling machine in his playoff against the Buffalo Bills, recording a season-high 14 tackles. He added another 12-tackle performance in the AFC Championship loss to the Patriots, reinforcing his reputation for lifting his results in the biggest moments.
“In my biggest games,'' he said this week in review, "I played my best.”
Singleton was diagnosed with testicular cancer during the season and yet he somehow missed only one game.
And all of this after suffering a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2024 season ... and will now turn into a free agent in the offseason.
We often hear of players needing the best part of 12 to 15 months to get back fully healthy, and Singleton could be a nice veteran addition to Parker's defense.
A superb tackler, something the Cowboys' defense has struggled with for years, Alex also possesses high football IQ, with the ability to read and diagnose the play before turning into a heat-seeking missile.
Pairing the wily veteran with Overshown if Dallas went that way would shore up the linebacker spot and give the Cowboys a nice tandem to work with.
Spotrac.com has Singleton's calculated market value at just $4.7 million APY (that seems way too low), so Alex could be seen as another bargain big free agent, but there's a host of reasons why he could fit.
One, he's better than Dallas' current options minus Overshown; he would fit into Parker's scheme, having worked with him before, and he's cheap. Tick, tick, and tick.
“I want to be back,” Singleton said of sticking with Denver, and maybe that's their plan.
But here?
In an offseason where the Cowboys need a defensive overhaul, Parker could get a couple of familiar faces to kick-start his regime.
One being in their most problematic position.
