FRISCO - Just as head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his Dallas Cowboys have finalized the hire of a leader for the defense, they faced a threat of sorts when it comes to the leader of their offense.
And Schotty said "no.''
The defensive coordinator search is complete with the hiring of Christian Parker, who was stolen away from the staff of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he served as the secondary coach and pass-game coordinator.
And now? Those same Eagles seem to want retribution.
According to a report from ESPN, the Eagles - who are having a devil of a time trying to find a qualified offensive coordinator candidate to take that job - requested to speak with Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams about their vacancy in that same spot.
As you can imagine would be the case, the Cowboys denied that request.
The Eagles are in search for a new play-caller after they fired Kevin Patullo after just one season there in that role.
Part of the Patullo story? Angry Eagles fans spent much of the season not only booing him, but even egging his house ... which is now reportedly on the minds of candidates (and their families) as they've declined invitations to join an Eagles team that also has locker-room conflicts involving offensive stars Jalen Hurts and J Brown.
Meanwhile, Adams doesn’t call plays in Dallas - Schottenheimer does that - and so Philadelphia was presumably asking about him with the idea that being the Philly play-caller would amount to a promotion.
Adams, 42, was hired from Arizona a year ago and is very much valued by Schottenheimer as he helped re-design a Cowboys run game that featured bargain-signee Javonte Williams totalling 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Dallas finished second in the NFL in total offense with Schottenheimer and Adams working together to make the Dak Prescott-led unit elite.
So even though Adams has ties to Philadelphia’s staff - he was the Colts offensive line coach a few years ago when now-Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was on the Indianapolis staff - he will remain in Dallas for the 2026 season.
