FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are remaking their coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball, just now saying goodbye to four members of the 2025 staff.
But there is now another threat to what Dallas is doing with its offensive staff.
The hiring of new defensive coordinator Christian Parker is tied to the departure of a quartet of aides, led by defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, who has moved on to the Tennessee Titans. (For the other three goodbyes, see below.)
And on head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offensive staff?
Dallas just fended off the Philadelphia Eagles, who were denied the chance to interview offensive coordinator Klayton Adams. But now another team is taking another stab at a key Dallas coach.
Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells is set to interview for a promotion with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wells is schediuled to interview for the offensive coordinator vacancy on Mike McCarthy's staff.
McCarthy, who coached the Cowboys for five seasons before being dismissed by Dallas a year ago, has replaced Mike Tomlin as the Steelers head coach. And it makes sense that he would see Wells as a valuable helper in the transition.
Wells, who worked here under McCarthy in Dallas for five years, earlier this month interviewed for the Washington Commanders offensive coordinator job.
In Dallas, Wells is credited with the development of Pro Bowl tight end Jake Ferguson and with aiding in the blocking scheme for the Cowboys' highly-ranked offense.
