Maxx Crosby is reportedly unhappy with being sat in Week 17, and of course, rumors of a move to the Cowboys have followed.

The Dallas Cowboys and Maxx Crosby rumors have already begun ahead of a huge offseason for the NFC East franchise.

With the star pass rusher reportedly unhappy in Las Vegas because he's been IR'ed' for the rest of the season, the rumor mill is up and running.

And of course, Dallas is being linked with Maxx yet again.

This time, it does make sense.

The Cowboys have the draft capital, the cap space (yes, they do), and a need.

    Tick, tick, and tick.

And for CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles, a move for Crosby would create the sort of headlines Jerry Jones loves.

"Jerry Jones has never been one to shy away from the headlines, and a move like this would certainly generate them," Pereles writes.

We might argue that Jerry's "headlines'' nowadays are often about major moves that the media wants Dallas to make, as opposed to the actual big-money moves the Joneses engineer.

    Nevertheless ...

There are two big questions for the Cowboys to answer.

Do they want to keep hold of those draft picks acquired in the Micah Parsons trade, and do they want to invest more money into a defensive line already boasting three defensive linemen making roughly $20 million APY?

One would think those two questions need to be asked and answered rather early in the offseason.

Adding Crosby would be a good move for a Cowboys defense that desperately needs pass rushing help. So why not get one of the better ones in football?

This is a monster headline waiting to happen, Jerry.

But it's more than that: It offers Dallas a "mulligan,'' a "do-over,'' a way to make the Micah trade look like a net win.

With an offense that has promise under Dak Prescott with George Pickens (and maybe Javonte Williams) sticking around in 2026, the defense is where all resources should be put.

That's the draft, free agency, and making a trade.

Our own Mike Fisher talks of using "all the tools in the toolbox," and Jerry has a chance to do exactly that here.

Essentially turning the Parsons trade-away into the qcquiring Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, and Maxx Crosby?

That's not only a heck of a headline.

It's also a heck of a net trade result.
