Silly Prediction Sees Cowboys Lose 1,000-Yard Back To NFC Rival cover image

If this were to happen, Cowboys Nation would storm The Sta

The Dallas Cowboys managed to have something under Brian Schottenheimer that they had been craving.

A viable run game.

With free agent Javonte Williams signed in the offseason, many were unsure if the move would work out.

Well, it did, and then some.

Williams posted 1,201 yards and 11 TDs to be the bellcow for Dak Prescott, and that allowed No. 4 to utilize CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

A one-year, $3 million deal last offseason will now likely see Williams earn double that, with Cowboys' COO Stephen Jones stating the desire to sign Javonte to a multi-year deal.

At around $6 or $7 million APY to keep Williams around, I am fairly sure the Cowboys are doing that.

But we are in the offseason, and this is the time when predictions and projections are made, some of which are even a little silly.

For PFSN's Ryan Guthrie, he has Williams signing with the Washington Commanders and Dan Quinn. Yikes.

"Washington can afford to gamble," Guthrie wrote. "With Jayden Daniels on a rookie deal, the Commanders can invest in a physical run game.

"Javonte Williams is coming off a career year with over 1,200 rushing yards and a top-10 NFL PFSN RB impact grade (74.5). Dan Quinn gets back to a hard-nosed identity while protecting his young quarterback."

I'm sure there isn't a logical reason that Javonte isn't a Cowboy in 2026.

Given how glowingly Brian Schottenheimer and other players have assessed Williams and what he has done for the offense, it makes sense to bring him back.

We've seen what this offense was without a proper run game in 2024, with Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle, now with Williams, defenses can't sit back and drop into coverage.

With Williams' ability to pick up consistent yards in 2025 (4.8 yards per carry), it meant that defenses had to play the run, and in turn, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Co. were allowed to have favorable matchups.

If Jaydon Blue or Malik Davis can take a big jump in improvement, the Cowboys' run game under Klayton Adams, Conor Riley, and Schottenheimer will be on track to be a top 10 rushing attack in football again.

So, yeah, Williams leaving The Star, at least to me, and likely the Cowboys too, doesn't seem feasible.
